Muscovys

I feel the need to point out that before texas revolution Texas was Mexico and therefore they should not be considered exotic nor invasive since it isn't their fault governments changed. But that's just me being ornery, lol.

Do Muscovies go feral in northern states? Muscovies are part of my long-term “plan” for self-sufficiency but I don’t want to accidentally introduce an exotic that would hurt the environment. From what I’ve read about them and their self-sufficiency and ability to fly, I’m a little concerned about the possibilities.

You could clip their wings, but i think that is a pain. If you don't mind using an incubator I would just keep a few saxony or silver appleyard, then throw some eggs in the when you want to hatch out some meaties. Also if you want to free range them i would get anconas, which are especially good foragers.

They are considered feral because ppl dumped them at holding ponds and they grow to a feral population. They dont just go feral, if you're planning to raise them - clip their wings because they are flyers and don't give the babies away to irresponsible people.

Clipping primaries doesnt stop the from flying. Clipping primaries just make extended flight impossible.

If you want to keep them grounded without worry the correct procedure is called pinioning.
