First time hatching chicks, I usually hatch call ducks, so I'm woefully new...
Just hatched out 8 chicks (right on schedule!). One was an assist with feet over head, the rest pipped, zipped and hatched on their own.
The one I assisted is the one I'm worried about. I only intervened after the other 7 had already hatched and this one still hadn't pipped. Candled to see it had internally pipped before opening up the air cell.
I checked to make sure the yolk was absorbed, and it wasn't yawning or chewing anymore. It was very weak but kicked off its shell by itself, but is still in the incubator while the rest have moved to the brooder.
It's stomach is very swollen and matted down, maybe it's hatch gunk, but googling brings lots of scary info on mushy chick disease.
Reassurance or advice on what to do? Please and thank you.
