I got a batch of 4 Cayuga ducklings Wednesday and one of the ducklings doesn't seem to be eating. Thursday evening I began trying to feed the duckling a warm watery mash with a syringe but I couldn't get it to open it's beak and didn't want to force it and risk injury. I have attempted putting the feed/water on my finger and a spoon and the chick will whip its head back and forth, even almost appear like it's eating some but I'm just not sure. I have seen it drink water and poop a white liquid, I have never seen it have a solid b.m. Now it seems that the chick is getting too weak to even hold itself up to walk. If anyone has any suggestions please let me know! I will hate to lose this little sweety.

I sure hope your little one pulls through. I’ve had ones come in the mail only to die a couple days later. Keep trying. Use vitamin water or put water in with their feed, then try to get it to drink the liquid. But I hate to say I haven’t had much luck when they are acting like that.:( Just do everything you can to get them to eat and drink.

Can you post a picture of the duckling? Can it hold it's head up?

Pooping white liquid probably means it's dehydrated, so I would try to get some fluids into it. Can you get some Pedialyte, that would be best. Then very carefully, open it's mouth give it one drop and let it swallow. Give 1-4 drops every 30 minutes.

My baby duck passed away the night I posted this. Thank you all for your responses. Now my 9 week old almost fully grown Cayuga is throwing up. I don't know why. She was fine when I let her out this morning but she did go around the front of the house and was nibbling at the pine like shrubs because they have tended new shoots. Maybe this made her sick? Should I put charcoal in her water to help?

Did you pick her up and then she vomited??

Do you know the exact name of what she was nibbling on? Charcoal won't hurt her it will soothe her tummy I use it often here. Just don't over do. But first answer the question if you picked her up and then she vomited pushing on the crop can cause this too.
