My 4 year old son had a squshy tick in his head!!

He was very scared and upset and of course we didn't help the situation, we were not very calm. I am not used to ticks, the hubby nor I ever had one on us before we moved out here. We are not experienced and we tend to panic. I think we made it a lot worse. But I was kind of okay all day. I just kept telling myself it was NOT a deer tick. But now that I see all these pictures, they all look the same when engorged. I didn't look at it very ling because it all happened so fast. Now I wish I had. Now its just a waiting game I guess although it is NOT a game, all I can do now is watch and wait. This really stinks.

i just wanted to add that my kids get ticks on them every summer from being outside all day and i just use a cigarette lighter on them to get them to let go and then just flush them..other than being gross looking, they are pretty harmless!

He should be OK. Try not to freak out, you removed it right? Put some hydrogen pyroxide on it and dab it with a cotton ball. And then let it dry out for a minute or two then maybe dab it with some neosporin ointment and see how it goes, don't scare your kid by freaking out with it, (I know it's hard sometimes, but...) then don't make a big deal out of it in front of him. Check the wound later the next day to see what it looks like. Make sure there isn't any 'mouthparts' from the tick left in the bite site. If it does'nt leave any weird bullseye mark you should be OK. If you aren't sure, just check with the doc. that's what they're there for.

Hi! I did put peroxide a couple of times and bacitracin on it a couple of times also. I was sure I got all of it out, but now of course I am second guessing myself. I probably should'nt but I am. I was all set until I saw all the pics people had me look at. I will be watching it closely as I have been already. Does anyone know if lyme disease is worse because he is soo small??? Thats my newest fear.

Lyme disease is only bad when you don't take care of it right away. Just watch and wait, that's all you can do besides what you are doing already.

If you aren't sure about it - just take him to your regular Doc and they do a blood test. Make sure you don't make a big deal about it in front of him, this happens a lot more than you think. Most likely it's just a regular tick bite, gross as it is....you'll be OK

Thanks Lunachick, You are making me feel a little better. I feel like putting a chair beside his bed and watching him all night. I still don't even know how it happened. It was not there before he went to bed. AND in the morning, there it was.

Let's say this is a Deer tick, there is some info. on when the ticks are able to transmit Lymes Disease. I can't remember when and I can't remember the site, but I did read that at a certain stage in thier life can they transmit it and at other times not. Not sure how accurate that is.

If this thing was engorged, it was not a deer tick. I saw one picture where there was an engorged tick with a deer tick right on it. A lot of times the deer ticks will "hide" under these huge ones. I am confident your son will be okay.

My nephew got a tick on his head while visiting from Colorado. My sister totally freaked out. Got on the phone with a nurse and they told her exactly what to do and how to get the tick out, what to do with it, etc. The poor guy was terrified. I felt bad for him. He is fine, even after getting a rash at the site of the bite. Watch for that, although I don't even think in your son's case it was the right type of tick to get Lyme Disease.

Take some deep breathes, he is going to be fine.

if it was skin color and squishy ,, it was probably jus a regular tick that you have there,,, but was full of blood. they get like that when their full. we have little red ticks here,,, when a stray dog shows up, they usually look like they got white grapes stuck to them.

went to arkansas for a visit, got 1 on me there,, thing dug in like a steam shovel,,,,,, i had it in a place not so ,, ummm ,, sweet

man,, i grabbed that tick,, tried to pull off,,, stretched "my body part" almost to the floor before it LET GO,,, ummm ,,, wow that hurt :|
