My bad Beagle ate an egg or more

Mine are fat brats. I ended up with a boy and a girl to each breed. My husband's picks... Go figure They are almost a year old and lay fertilized eggs, but they do not tend to the nest at all. They just want to eat and play in the water. I have two eggs at the moment I am attempting to hatch under a heat lamp. Not sure if it will work, but it's worth trying. I have one chicken, Catwoman, laying on six duck eggs most of the time and is very possive with them. Maybe we will get lucky and have more little ducks.
Chickens have been known to be great hatchers of duck eggs. But the ones under the heat lamp may not be doing well. There has to be a certain amount of humidity and a specific temperature for eggs to develop properly. You might want to candle them, and also the eggs under the chicken, to check for viability and remove any that are duds. You could try posting in this other forum for some better help:

Thank you for the advice! My chickens only like their coops to sleep. They have their spots they like to lay, but it changes all the time. We are in the area for another few months. So, I don't force them to go anywhere at the moment, other than the little ones we just got. We had 19 babies; lost 2 to pasty but hours after having them, 17 now, plus 7 laying hens, 4 ducks, 4 dogs, and 2 cats... 28 yard birds total For the moment. So yes I guess a large property for the city that comes with a large price tag for my feather and furry babies but they are all worth it

When their only choice is to lay in the nest boxes, that will soon turn into a habit. Then your dog won't be able to get them anymore.
Depends on the height of the nest boxes.

OP, are you sure the egg-eating caused the puking and diarrhea? Freshly laid eggs shouldn't have anything in them that would make her sick--I feed raw eggs (cracked, frozen, too dirty to bother with, etc) to the dogs pretty often.

Welcome :welcome Glad you decided to join! My dogs love eggs but fortunately my chickens are 99.9% reliable to go into the coop and lay eggs in the nesting boxes. :) Sorry your beagle got sick, could he have eaten a few eggs or something else? None of my dogs ever had a problem (other than my disapproval :p) eating one egg, shell and all..... Hope he gets better quick

Thank you! I camdled the ones under the heat lamp tonight. I see one clearly has a white spot, the other one I think may be a dud. The one Catwoman lays on are only one and two days old. I am not sure I want to disturb at the moment. I am looking into incubators, but I am totally lost on which ones will work. I have also been told the duck eggs have a small chance of living with a first year layer. My ducks are just over the year mark now. As for humidity, it is naturally pretty humid where I live and I have the eggs outside in Tupperware filled with hay and rotate them three times a day. They seem to be warm enough. I have raised a lit of chickens and ducks since I was a child, but never attempted to help an egg to hatch. Maybe I will have beginners luck ❤ I will candle the other eggs tomorrow night. Thank you again for all the advice.

I am sure Marley is sick from eggs. She is a bad girl and this isn't the first time she has ate them and got sick. She can't eat cooked eggs without getting sick. I had an overload of eggs and learned she cant have anything with eggs after she got sick a few times. I am guessing she found the hens new nesting spot before I did. I caught her eating the egg tonight, but she started the symptoms last night. Marley is starting to feel better finally with lots of water and well... Y'all know what happens with an upset belly. I will be able to rest once she will eat food and hold it down. Until then me and the baby chicks and bonding and the hens are fast asleep.
