My best girl just died

I need to tell somebody that my favorite hen died this morning. She had peritonitis and I had to have her euthanized. She just started acting lethargic yesterday (the 4th of July), so I took her first thing to the vet and there was nothing she could do. I am heartbroken . How could I have missed this terrible problem? I feel like the worst chicken momma ever. I am very attentive to my little flock. She was only three.

So sorry to hear about your hen. Unfortunately chickens often don't act sick until they are really, really sick - often too late to do anything.

I doubt you missed anything, because often chickens act pretty normal in the early stages of reproductive problems.

Thank you so much. I am going back over every day trying to rethink this. I thought she would live until at least five! I thought my girls were really healthy .
