I got a necropsy 14 years ago, and at that time the State was very helpful and concerned, but I still spent, as I remember, upwards of $60.00. I did, however, get a LOT of free advice and support from the veterinary staff, so I didn't mind. The second time I got one, about 12 years ago, I spent over 100.00 to find out my bird had worms. Plus at that time, I had an intense interview with the vet handling my case who advised me to "not move any birds" etc, and, basically, terrified me. Plus, they were not friendly. Maybe I just had a bad experience that time, I don't know, but I would tend to think twice before going back there. Fortunately, (knock on wood) I haven't had reason to since then. When I called and spoke with the state OH. pathologist, she said a basic necropsy is only $23 if you bring in the bird. But histology and requested testing is additional.
