I hatched a group of extremely dark brown eggs from a black copper marans. All are around 7 weeks now, all black, 2 with copper coming in around the head, but one is still all black and has definite tufts on its cheeks. Do black copper marans get tufts? I thought only the araconda chickens have tufts. anybody know of marans having tufts?

I think we need pictures. 😊 Sounds cute. I don't think the standard have them, but I have a rooster who has tufts with no reason to. He is a Buff orpington welsummer cross so I don't know why but I guess it happens.

That's really weird because that bird has a pea comb too... Are you sure you know what egg it came out of?
I’m absolutely positive. It was the darkest brown egg of the bunch. These were all the eggs in my incubator. The dark dark one was her.

I’m thinking possibly an ameracuana rooster May have slipped in there. If so.. would that change the color of egg she will lay? From brown to.. olive? I’m new to chickens so I’m not sure how that goes. Or if it were an olive egger? ... then possibly a very dark olive egg? In either case. I’m excited to find out
