My chick is sneezing

I would move him back with the ones he was just with, to see if he will eat and drink better. They have all been exposed anyway by now. Are any other birds sneezing? IB usually goes through a flock quickly. His noisy breathing sounds a little worse than IB, but MG can look similar. Make sure he starts drinking well, since sick birds can get dehydrated fast. You may want to add some water to a little bowl of chicken feed to make it runny. a tsp of plain yogurt can be stirred in for probiotics. They tend to like wet feed, but don't leave it out for more than a day. Here is a good link to read about illnesses and symptoms including the respiratory ones such as IB, MG, coryza, and ILT: http://edis.ifas.ufl.edu/ps044
Thank your this is very helpful

My salmon faverolles sneeze often which worries me but they breathe normally and don't have facial swelling, bubbly eyes etc. and they eat a lot and are very active. Is there something wrong with them I'm just not seeing?

He's a cutie:)

The breathing is concerning, Infectious Bronchitis and Mycoplasma are a couple of common respiratory illnesses. Usually these are accompanied by more symptoms. Milder cases of Infectious Bronchitis may just present with sneezing.

Tylan50 can help with secondary infections (bacterial) , but it not that effective if treating Infectious Bronchitis (viral). You can try treating him to see if there is any improvement. Tylan 50 can be given orally 2X per day - dosage is .20ml per 1lb of weight. You want to make sure he has plenty of ventilation, is eating/drinking well and that his crop is emptying overnight.
You can also use the VetRx in addition to antibiotics, since it's an "natural remedy".

Just to cover all bases - what type of food/treats do you feed him, does he have poultry grit available free choice and have you checked for any signs of lice/mites.
Unfortunately I live in the uk and can’t order or get ether of your products but have managed to find some chicken tonic

Welcome to BYC! Sorry your intro is due to this situation. There are other UK users on BYC, hopefully they can recommend other options? I hope you can resolve this!!

Chickens are like people. They can sneeze at any time for the same reasons we might. Ours are perfectly healthy and it's not at all uncommon to see one sneeze. There are no hard-and-fast rules about what is "normal." Just keep an close eye on them and their environment (especially dust and ammonia). If there are no other signs of illness or environmental problems, there's no reason to be worried. Of course they shouldn't be sneezing constantly or infrequently for consecutive days.

Perhaps a though experiment might be of help: If you were sneezing as frequently as they are, would you you find that abnormal?

I've had chicks, pullets, and hens sneeze a few times in an hour. I watched closely and the pattern didn't continue. I've had a couple chicks sneeze a few times a day for a couple days at a stretch. At that point we were watching them VERY closely. There were no other symptoms, their behavior was perfectly normal, the other chicks didn't start sneezing and the pattern didn't continue after a couple days.

That's not much data, but I hope it helps a little.

Thanks so much

Glad you were able to find a tonic. You may also find Nextex Poultry Nutri-Drops.

Let's see if @rebrascora can help you find a few products that may be helpful. Yes, being in the UK, you will need a vet for antibiotics. A substitute for VetRx would be Vicks Vapor Rub.

You may want to add your location to your profile, so in the future, we can suggest products more specific to your location.

@HoopyFrood ok, cool! I honestly got pretty scared for my Faverolles. I might check their coop just to make sure it's not too dusty or dirty. Thank you so much for the info!

Of course! Happy to offer what little I can. We are new chicken parents, though it was a couple years in the making. So we know how (unnecessarily) worried one can be! But we've also lost two birds under our watch, which was heartbreaking.

It's tough to find that balance between being vigilant/diligent and avoiding unnecessary worry/paranoia. We just keep doing the best we can, and always try to keep learning!

Okay we are going to see how it is but we might have a vet look at it in a few days and I have some vapour rub so I will try that too
