Hello BYC members! So, my chicken is around 7/8 months old and she has never layed an egg! She has coriza (which doesnt show symptoms no more) but i dont think that afects anything... anyways Im really worried she will never lay one! What could this be? Thanks in advance.

Without knowing the specific breed, 7/8 months is still a little early. Need longer days too, she came of age in the darkest daylight season. Add light up to 12 hours a day should help.
Good luck.
Im not sure what her breed is, either... She came from a local fair! I just know shes a smaller breed than normal chickens. Thank you for the tips!!

Age may be kinda early considering time of year and her illness.
Did you treat her for the coriza?
Details on that might give a clue.
Days are slowly getting longer....you'll just have to be patient.
Maybe thats true yes.... I did treat her she sometimes sneezes but theres no other symptoms (shes very active, eats and drinks well, doesnt have any snot or swollen eyes and her breathing makes no noise anymore).
And yeah Ill keep waiting! Im just worried because my neighbor had the same type of chickens (smaller ones) and they would lay eggs all the time! I think they were pretty young, too. Thanks for the reply!!

She still looks immature. Her comb and waddles are small and pink, when she get mature enough to lay they will grow larger and become red in color. She may also start to squat down when you pet her on the back like she would for a rooster. I have 7 hens that are my first chickens. All started laying at 4 1/2 to 5 months except 1! She waited till 7 1/2 months to lay her 1st egg. Same thing:small pink comb and waddles. Now they are much larger and bright red. She might be waiting for spring.
I also increased the protein content in her food. She was getting layer feed, at 16% protein but someone here told me to switch to flock feeder at 20%. It made all the difference! Good luck and welcome to BYC! You can ask people here for anything and someone will help you.

She may still be ill tho...not in optimum health.
What did you treat her with and when?
Knowing those details might help.

Also what all and how exactly are you feeding?

She's still fairly young. If she has Infectious Coryza that probably set her back quite a bit in development. Infectious Coryza does cause a drop in egg productivity. I don't know how much it affects the reproductive system, but it could cause some problems later on in life due to damage from the disease. Time will tell.

It would be a good idea to do some research and read up on Infectious Coryza. It does make birds carriers for life and they can become symptomatic intermittently throughout there lifetime, not to mention passing it on to any other birds you may have.
