One time my kids let a frog they found go.. 5 minutes later my golden comet had it by its leg running away from 10 other hens.. it was a sight for sure...

That's the definition of predator/prey omnivorous animal. If a creature can fit in its mouth it is prey. If the creature is larger, it is a potential predator.

Thank heavens for reason! It’s a chicken..they aren’t vegetarians!
I am a vegetarian but hey..I chose that and I’ll be honest I look away when my chickens are doing their t-Rex impression with live anything ..I fully appreciate we cannot stifle every natural animal characteristic we find distasteful.. my cute fluffy chicks had a worm within 2 mins of being let in the garden!
The instinct to hunt and eat meat is strong in chickens for sure!
( and yes my chicken, chicks, chickdren etc etc get enough protein in their diet )

I had no idea that chicken ate mice until the day the cat caught a mouse in the coop and the chickens chased her around and around the coop until she dropped it and one of them picked it up. It was one of the funniest things I've ever seen!

This thread had me laughing so hard I had tears in my eyes. My girls get so excited when they catch anything alive, and when my roomget a beetle my girls chase him around trying to get it.

That just goes to show how important animal protein is to them. It is innate.
