I'm on the Powhatan/Cumberland County line. I ordered 150 and when they first arrived cold and hungry OMG ear plugs wouldn't have been enough!
My 5 year old went into his bedroom and shut the door refusing to come out. Once they warmed up and had fully tummies the noise went to zero as they all fell asleep at once. I have to say it was pretty darn cute!

While that is a good point I think the problem was she was rude. Had she explained she could get in trouble it would have been one thing. But to just say "they'll die" is another. Oh and most small towns are a bit different. We don't tend to lynch people for caring for our livestock in a time of crisis. Now what the boss would do is a different story. She always could have called the boss and been advised as to what to do. Still she just was tactless and rude.
I'm from a small town too, but when I had fish shipped in when I lived in the smaller town, even though everyone knew my name, my cell phone number and my home number, they still would not open the box to make sure my fish were alive, even though I always made sure to open it there to show off the newest fish.
As for being rude, eh, it was probably more tactless than rude, I doubt she really meant to be rude.
Either way, it's done and over with, the chickies are home, and oh my god are there a lot of them! They're safe and sound and probably loud as all get-out!
So glad this had a happy ending - double smacks for the rude mail clerk - we had one of "those" at our local post office - I knew more than she did and she made more money than me! I got so tired of her perpetual rudeness that I got a PO box at a different PO.
There is a rude lady at our PO who most people are familiar with. I guess just one of those people who is unhappy with their job/life. I really don't know but my neighbor knew excatly who I was talking about and she's lived here less time than I have.
The chicks are all doing great and are as happy as can be. Me on the other hand, my truck is still stuck and since DH got home at 10pm last night was no help. He left at 7am for work and who knows what time he will get home.
At this rate my truck will become a yard ornament.
