My child has ACNE!!!!!!!!!

Actually, I am almost afraid of what will happen when his voice changes. He has a very soft but very deep and raspy voice. That sounds ucky...it isn't. He actually has a nice voice, jsut a very mature sounding one. I honestly think it is because his vocal cords were damaged as a baby. He was on a ventilator for about 2 months. I had someone tell me he sounds like an old man once when he was a tiny little thing. He cried so quiet as a baby that strangers would ask what that sound was.

but i have seen boys with a normal voice one year and during summer break coming back sounding like Barry white LOL

Just chiming in as someone who still has acne in her 40's . . . it's a real PITA. The only thing that's worked for me is a regular regimen of low-dose antibiotics (yes I know we want to avoid over-use of AB meds but I've suffered no ill-effects and it's really the only thing that works consistently for me) PLUS a twice-daily application of a lotion containing salicylic acid (available over-the-counter - I use Neutrogena). Please help him with this - it's really depressing to constantly have breakouts - even minor ones seem major when they're on YOUR face. Please do have him see a dermatologist, especially if he's a sensitive guy.
And then wait till he has his first real girlfriend!!

""Associate Professor Mann and PhD researcher Robyn Smith, in conjunction with staff from the Department of Dermatology at Royal Melbourne Hospital, recruited 50 boys and divided them into two groups.

One group consumed a typical teen diet of sugary snacks and processed foods, while the other followed a more natural diet higher in protein and with low-GI foods such as wholegrain bread, pasta and legumes replacing the normal high-GI foods such as potatoes, rice, white bread, cakes, biscuits, soft-drinks and sugary snacks that elevate blood glucose levels and insulin levels so dramatically..."The acne of the boys on the higher protein-low GI diet improved dramatically, by more than 50 per cent, which is more than what you see with topical acne solutions," said Associate Professor Mann."

I have suffered with acne forever (it seems!). I'm 34 now. The only thing that I've found that works for me is Proactiv. It's pricey, but I use it every day.

Good luck mom! My DD is almost 10 and I'm really starting to be aware that changes are coming and quick!

I have terribly sensitive skin and anything other than plain hot water causes me to break out BAD. I recommend trying only a hot water rinse and a good scrub with a clean hot wash cloth if any soaps or creams don't work, or make it worse. I went through many agonizing years before I figured this out. My complexion is uneven now with old scars because of it.

As someone who has delt with acne her whole life and seen doctors ect I do have one suggestion that will work if it is not hormones or diet. Homemade soap. That is it because of the detergents in all mass produce soap it tends to cause skin problems like acne amongst others. I make my own soap out of 3 ingredents only. Takes barley any time to do it and is very cheap. Both my hubby and I have acne problems I am 44 now and still have break outs. His was mostly caused by soap so now that I make are own his has cut way back to the swet acne. Mine is caused by over active oil and homemade soap cuts that down good since it does not strip my skin of oils like store boughts do.

bacause hormones can make the skin react strange it would be well worth trying this to help clear up your sons skin. Alot less expensive than doc and those over the counter strippers for acne. Another good remedy is tea tree oil with isopropole achohole(sp). I mix it together just a bit of TT to the achohole(sp) works wonders for clearing acne.

This sounds really harsh but its not. Lye soap. I bought a brand at an ace hardware. grandma's best. 3 ingredients. lard, lye and water. Its not great smelling but not bad either. I bought some because my kids had ezema and I am anti the steroid creams the pediatrician kept pushing. Someone suggested this and it did wonders. I have a bit of adult acne and tried it. Worked wonders. Everything else left my skin so dry. Acne was better than what all the stuff was doing to my skin.
