UPDATE: Maybelle has passed away
We went through an entire pouch of tube feed formula and even bought another bag of it on Friday at vets office. Maybelle was literally feathers and bones. She lost all muscle mass and every day she became weaker and weaker.
She was not pooping any of her food out and clearly her body was not absorbing any of the nutrients. It was so sad to see her decline so rapidly. Yesterday we spent the entire day outside, and her sister sat next to her under her favorite shade tree. My husband and I talked it over in depth and agreed that she was not ever going to recover from this illness.
She became aggressive towards us because she was clearly in pain. One thing I learned is that Maybelle was a tough girl and masked her symptoms well...but she was in a lot of pain and it just killed me to watch her decline. My husband was my voice of reasoning because I have a very hard time in letting go. Last night we took her to our vet where they humanely sedated her and then euthanized her. My husband and I got to hold her as she was sedated, so I know we were the last ones Maybelle saw.
RIP Maybelle.
