My First Egg Is "Hard Boiled"!?!?

Quote:
I have 2 nest boxes inside the coop with a wooden egg in each. I would assume they would lay in those. BUT, they sleep in the nest boxes. Would that ever deter them from laying where they sleep? and the first one was inside the coop, but not in the box. Don't think I believe these were laid by them, I'm just not sure how it works when they sleep where they should lay.

This is one hilarious thread and I am reading right along hoping to solve the mystery before I go back to work! NOW I am really really hoping you can get even. I like the idea about the invasive test or having to be quaratined in your house, or something that would sooooo get even with the BF and the husband. Because I think they are BOTH in on it!

You should keep mentioning things to your husband like you are still really concerned so he doesn't catch on that you are on to him, and plan your REVENGE!

One of mine sleeps in her nest box, doen'st bother her in the least.

I like the idea of getting a coworker or friend hubby doesn't know to pose as an inspector. Maybe he would be able to "catch" you with the inspector outside around the coop and yard with them pointing at things and you nodding away at the "information" being given to you.

No one here thought you were an idiot. And if any of my postings made you feel that way, please accept my most sincire apologies. I never intended them to come across that way.

When they lay , in a few weeks. hen will let you know clucking to let the world know. The wooden eggs are not need untill they start laying.

Give them some roost , don't let them roost in the nest boxes. Break the habit before they lay, easier to keep the eggs clean then.

Oh boil you a dozen eggs , then gather one every day from the coop, show husband they are now laying a egg every day ,still boil eggs too. See if he falls for it.....

You know how the fairy tales have a "Golden Goose?" You have a "Hardboiled Chicken!"

Tis' Awesome!!!

Make sure your roost is higher than the nest boxes. Chickens like to be as high as possible. If they are in the nest at night, then pick them up and put them on the roost. It should only take about a week to retrain their habit.

If you don't break the habit now, you're going to end up with dirty (meaning poopy) eggs, or you'll drive yourself batty trying to keep them clean.

I found this post looking for what may be wrong with mine. one of my young pullets first eggs I cracked open today and the white was ok but the yolk is the consistancy of soft boiled not quite hard boiled. kid of squishy but not runny. but mine may have been frozen, still I never saw one like that before. Usually when they thaw they are find just a little whiter.

but I agree, must be a prank. first eggs are much smaller.

Agreed, but tell him the tests will cost say $150 or something...something to make him realize that someone else is trying to pull the wool over your eyes and just get your money. If he wouldn't tell the truth at $150 then raise the price of the test and let him believe that you are truly sending out the $$ for the test...I don't think he'd let you mail that envelope!
