My first experiance with giving a chicken a bath (pic heavy)!!!

We have given our white bantam cochin rooster "Tony" several baths (in the kitchen sink with the anti-bacterial dish detergent) so far but I don't think he's ever enjoyed them quite like that guy did!! Tony does seem to tolerate the blow drying fairly well. Our cochin hen "Strawberry Alice" was given a bath after she discovered the igloo cat litter box and decided to take her version of a bath in THAT while they were inside for a couple of days during a bad snowstorm last month. She really didn't appreciate being bathed in the sink preferring the dust variety "bath".

To all that have read this post and those to come. I advise everyone.....right now.....to give a chicken a bath. If you had a bad day,or just want a good heart-warming laugh, then I suggest doing it......NOW!!!

Very funny! I had the exact same experience with my Wyandotte roo about a month ago. I put him in our shower stall with a hand sprayer thinking the I was going to end up bleeding when he totally freaked out. He did the same thing and almost fell over when he relaxed.

We used a hair dryer after and I'm not sure if he liked that or the shower better!

I had to tell you- i have referred folks to this thread so many times when they have questions about bathing chickens... it really should be a sticky- it is just precious!

That is way cool! I think you may have started something. I never would have thought they'd like it. My girls are always out in the rain unless it's pouring. Gonna have to try it sometime. I have just the canidate. The other day I was out cleaning the coop and "B" came in she was aptley named. She B'd at me like normal so I B'd back louder, it went back and forth 4 times each time louder. I too was laughing so hard I had tears rolling down my face.

it all started for me with my silky mopsy- she got a lice infestation, and i gave her a bath, she tends to get filthy cuz she has a bad leg- anyway as i was drying her sitting in the sun, these 'things' started walking up my arms, as i looked closer they were all over her- so hubby grabbed some kitchen oil, we doused her to kill them, then proceeded to bathe her 5 more times that day with dawn- but it got rid of the lice and mopsy has been addicted to baths ever since...LOL! She will melt into the water- so do 2 of my older hens- a red star and a cochin who tend to get dirty bums- also my other banty girl Nimi seems to enjoy them too...
