My first hatching experience Sad update page 9

I'll tell you what you can do. Go in your bathroom and turn on the hot water in the shower to steam up the whole room. Take the whole bator in your bathroom and set in on the counter or even floor, whatever. Once it's steamy, have someone open the bator a little bit and the other person quick reach in and get the therm. out. Close it back up. And vawlah! You are back in business. This is how we take out babies or eggs if they need help if we need to.

I did this during my shower today. The humidity inside the bator actually raised 2% when I cracked it open in the bathroom!!!

ETA: No I guess I didn't do it DURING my shower, lol I did it right afterwards, while the bathroom was all steamy. Figured I'd better clarify, I'm not hatching ducks in my bathtub or anything. (Although on BYC, that would be perfectly normal!)

No peeping and no pips yet. Today is day 20 though so we're just barely getting started!

Glad it worked!

I'm starting some eggs tomorrow...my first time too. Have an old 4-H hova-bator and just got some Welsummer Eggs from Oklahoma...I hope this works, so nervous about keeping the temp and humidity correct. Your incubator looks nice, mine is really old and no frills. Crossing my fingers!! Good luck to you!

The still air LG is actually a low-end model, pretty bare bones. Lots of people hate 'em! lol

I saw one of the BO eggs wiggling, but still no pips. Can you tell I'm impatient!

Come on kids!

This morning when I got up, I had a Buff orpington egg pipped. Well DH and I went shopping and when we came back one of my RSL eggs had pipped, I went out to hang out some laundry and came back and another Buff egg had pipped!!!!!!!
I did some dishes and now a white egg has pipped!!!!!!!

Maybe doing chores gets the eggs to pip??? LOL

At least I know I haven't killed them yet!!!!!

ETA: Picture of second pip:

I'll have to fire up my laptop I guess and manually upload (I don't have the Blackberry software on my desktop)

I'm up to 7 pips, and the first little pipper is starting to zip but he's taking his sweet time about it.

I've heard a few distinct peeps out of the 'bator, but DH's computer has extra fans and it sounds like a jet engine over there....can't hear much from the bator. I can see inside one of the pips and see the chick opening and closing his beak every so often. Guess they are resting and absorbing yolk??? I'm not 100% sure what they are waiting on, but I know they'll come out when they get ready.
