My first hatching experience Sad update page 9

Oh most definately they're absorbing yolk. I learned that the hard way. I looked in and saw one opening and closing it's beak and though o m g that chick's in distress and it's gonna die! So um...I helped it. Dumped it out of the egg and it still had yolk to absorb. The happy ending was that it did finish absorbing the yolk. I could have killed it though. If that yolk gets broke or the umbilical cord gets severed before it's done....it's done.

So I'll never do that again.

I had to "do in" 2 babies last week due to umbilical cord issues. It got bad. And I was sad. But that is nature. And I couldn't let those 2 suffer.

one of the RSL eggs is making more progress
OMG this is so hard! I've never done it before so I dont't know how it's supposed to look

Wish I had a better camera for close ups, like a real camera. Have no idea how OLD the film in my "real" camera is though, but at least on it I can focus on these small babies.

ETA again: We have a 10th pip -- --the first green egg to pip!!!!!!

Omg I'm never gonna get any sleep!!!!(it's 12.17am, but I don't work till 4pm tomorrow)

BTW humidity is running about 64-65% hope it works for us!! Like I said, it seems a bit wet, but I'm totally inexperienced so I have no idea how it should be.

I belive this one is RIR over Red sexlink. The other one like it (same hen) is also starting to make progress! Yay hybrid vigor, lol!

We have a second chick out!!! This one (also RIR x RSL) zipped out FAST

A white egg that I can't really see is starting to zip!!! I need some popcorn, this is quite a show!

I expect this to be RIR over White Leghorn:

Well it's almost 3am and I am getting tired. lol Good thing I don't have to work till 4pm tomorrow (sucky hours, but hey, I get to watch the babies!!!!!!!)

There are 3 chicks fully out now, and none others are currently zipping, but 10 have pipped so we shall see

2 are reddish looking and the 3rd is yellow with some black spots - they are very active and take frequent power naps!!!

NOW, last night the humidity held steady at 65% all day, but by morning when I got up it had dried out and dropped to mid-40s% SOOOOOO how do I keep the humidity up all night for the ones who will probably be hatching out???

I'm going to close the door and run the room humdifyer so maybe the room air won't pull as much humidity out. Cross yer fingers for us that they don't get stuck!
