My first hatching experience Sad update page 9

It was the Brown one that was making a loud ruckus was even chirping in his sleep! I held him for a bit, and when I put him back I noticed that his beak was wet looking even though I didn't see him drink.
I found him dead about an hour later. I guess something was wrong is why he wouldn't shut up.
Something is wrong with these EE eggs. Maybe they were just too old

It's raining and 100% chance of more rain tomorrow, plus the bottom fell out of the temperature too. No burial tonight or tomorrow, so I just put him in the trash with the egg that I opened

Darnit little brownie was so cute I thought we might keep that one.

The Cuckoo Marans egg has been zipping for the last 30 minutes or so, hope she makes it!

ETA: I stayed up so she wouldn't have to stay in the icky bator when she hatched, but I think she died. She worked at zipping for almost an hour, and seemed to be making it. Suddenly I can't even see her breathing anymore!

It's been a BAD night. Not sure if she dried out too much, or what. I don't think I'm gonna do "staggered" hatches though. Gah, almost 4am and I'm going to bed all sad. I think disappointed might be a better word -- this hatch went SO well and it's just come to a screechin halt tonight.

Good thing I'm off work tomorrow coz I'm barely gonna get a wink of sleep!

My hen is sitting on (our first hatching experience) and I have done my VERY BEST to assume/convince myself that none will make it, so I don't melt down if it happens...makes me so sad when these darling little babies don't make it

Sorry, I had bad luck trying to do staggared in one bator, I invested a few $ in a still air styro bator for hatching anfd my hatches improved considerably. I am using my still air to hatch in this year until I get my cabinet bator re-furbished and running, I will still use the styro as a hatcher for now.

Breakdown is:
8 green EE eggs from ChickyTocks 2 clears, 2 died near lockdown, 4 hatched but one died as a day-old

4 brown EExBuff eggs from ChickyTocks 1 tossed clear, 3 hatched!!

8 white RIRxWLeghorn eggs from my flock 100% hatched!!!

2 brown RIRxRSL eggs from my flock 100% hatched

+1 one day later I added 1 Cuckoo Maran egg from Chicky Tocks died during a long zip

23 eggs set.
20 went to lockdown
17 hatched out!!! (But one died as a day-old)

You did a great job on your 1st hatch!!!! very sorry for your one loss I feel your pain. But count your blessings your other fuzzy butts look so great. I really learned a lot about hatching from this post.

Hope your catching up on your sleep today.

Sorry you lost brownie, I always go for the red and brown ones as favorites, and Brownie was such a good name. You sure do have a box of beauties tho. I'm glad to hear your hatch went so well.

You did great for your firs hatch!! I dont know if it's something about EEs or what. My first hatch I only had 1 hatch out of 13 EEs and it died as a day old. Then my second hatch I had 20 EEs and only one hatched and had a bum leg and wound up dieing at around 6 weeks or so.

Makes me wonder if theyre just hard to hatch or something. Has anyone else had a bad experience with EE's? I'm starting my third hatch with Ameraucanas and White rocks. Hopefully this one goes better. YOur babies are adorable by the way!!!
