My first ROO

So I am SO pleased with my hens and Roopen! They have settled into a nice routine.

Roopenn wakes the county at about 5 in the morning, which is great cuz my husband gets up then. And so I pretty much do as well. Then I go let the whole lot of them out before they draft a letter to the SPCA and get it to the mail box.

I fill the food bowls amidst the chastisement of not being fast enough and then they all beeline for the water sources.

Then then the hens settle into laying mode. Speaking of which WHAT IS THIS??!!

That thing on the end there ^^

Now I know Lindsay has been into the peanuts a bit but I'm hoping she doesn't start laying them. It should be interesting to see if her eggs start tasting like Cadbury's Easter creamed peanut butter eggs!!

Anyways, I didn't say anything to her about it. I'm not about shaming, or chastising the poultry like my husband does; Mr. Quality control.
He doesn't realize it but they are always telling him (very politely and all lady-like) to "bck**kowwwffff"

They literally come running to me. I called Lindsay today and she was all sprinting mad to the deck then I was all "Hi Lindsay! Aren't you a gorgeous girl!" I didn't have any peanuts but I knew they wouldn't mind because they love me and understand.

She was so affectionate and then she asked for the ...
"terrrrrrrrrreeeaaaaaaAAATS?"
And Rue was right behind ...." "ShecalledusforteeeeerrrreeeEEEAATS"

"WheeeerrrRRRREEEARETEH TREATS!!???
"theteeeeerrrrrrRRRRRREEEAAATS?"
"ShecaawwwwleeduUUS?"
"IknowshecaawwwwWWWLLLDUS!?
...
"shehasnoteeerRREAATS??!"
"Can't trustheeeeeEEERRR!"
"Can'ttrustherrrRRRRR?"
"OMgaaaawwwwwd?"
"bckHEEEERRRRRR"
"Bk aawwwwwffff"
"let's Bck outa heeeerrrrrrrrreeeee"

Then Roopenn was all protecting his girls and looking out for their nutrition and general wellbeing so he was looking for bugs or anything to calm his girls down ... Finally he suggested a dust bath in the barn and that really soothed them.

"BBBBB bayyyybe ... you Kick that dust and derive me craaaazy"

Anyways, He tucked them in quite nicely after wards. They have all agreed to share the upper door apartment. even though I built much nicer real estate for them. It's ok because they have no idea about he *new neighbours* that will be moving in in a month or so ... ;)

hehehehehhhe
Lots more to come ;)

Ahh... There was some hint that chicks might be joining the flock when they get bigger. It's a good thing Roopenn and the girls are reserving the highest spot to roost. They will want to make it clear who is top of the pecking order.

That little eggs might be one of those occasional wind eggs or oops eggs that are yolkless. They are cute.

Was it yolkless? Sorry I'm late to the party LOL
"Errrr"

"Her beeeerrrrrRRRAAAAAIN isyoklesss!!!"
'Notnice..."

Thanks for tuning in! There is a LOOOt going on, I just have had no time to document it.

The latest thing is the 'Hatfields and the Mccoys drama between the ducks and chickens. Philip has a duck sitting on eggs and she's just as prickly about it as a hedgehog, yammering away at the water, bitching about how she's been sitting forever and *nothing* is happening.

"F****ch fAACHFACHFACFAAAAAAAACH" then she buggers off all annoyed.

Poor Philip is beside himself trying to look after her and do his parental duties with the mother duck, while also doting on the other two * social types * who just want to hang out at the pool, preen and talk about the latest in feather fashion.

Roopenn is also frazzled because he has two flocks now and he's trying to get the older girls to accept his younger girls but they won't cooperate. So he ends up running between the two flocks.
"*Somehow* one of the males, in their daily duties finds himself behind enemy lines and there's a square off.

Now Roopenn is definitely the more agile of the two, but Philip has tangled with a car before and survived, so he's got no fear.

It's all very interesting.

Luckily they are all addicted to peanuts and I can control them with treats.

Phiew ....

I will write up an anecdote later. One VERY funny narrative from inside the coop happened a few weeks ago. I'll see if I can write it up.
I'm just terribly busy with work at the moment.
