My hen has a prolapsed vent !

I've read the recommended dosage is 5mg/2.2 lbs. I think it was on a post by @casportpony , unless I'm mistaken. Crush It up and mix It with food or water.

That sounds more accurate and the direct dosage would be best for making sure she gets it in the right quantity. But it would be hard for a layperson to find or measure out 10-20 mg when the pills come in 80mg. (I’m remembering trying to 1/4 my cats tiny little heart pills with any degree of accuracy for her dosage even with a pill cutter!)

I found one site that says ibuprofen can be given.

@Wyorp Rock and @Cragg Klefor thanks! I missed that link and it was very informative! I had a busy day and was trying to catch up on the post...

About the baby aspirin, the dosage recommendation I was given on a post was 5 pills to a gallon (3.8L) of water for pain relief. Baby aspirin are 80mg so that doseage info would also mean 2 regular aspirin at 200mg (ASA, Acetylsalicylic acid) would work out to the same doseage of 400mg/gallon of water. I have no idea if this is correct information as no one disputed it or seconded it. Maybe someone with more knowledge can give you more information on it?
We don't have baby asperin, and most pharmacists are closed because it is new years:hmm
This is the info I have for aspirin
****
ASPIRIN SOLUTION

Used as a general treatment for reducing distress conditions of birds (fever or listlessness) that accompanies many diseases.

Dissolve five (5 grain) aspirin tablets in one gallon of water.

Offer this solution free-choice to the birds for the duration of an illness. The solution aspirin equivalent to 25 grains/gallon or 324 mg/gallon of drinking water. The dosage rate is about 25 mg/lb body weight per day.

I realize the aspirin has been suggested several times on this thread. The OP has stated they do not have aspirin, so to me, it was not relevant to pursue that as an option for treatment.

Sorry, I didn’t realize it was completely unavailable to them, just thought it might be a branding issue or the “baby” ones that were unavailable...
Like I will find it in shops of course, but many shops closed early today because of new years eve and I unfortunately dont have any aspirin in our medicine cabinet. But her prolapse is back in, the swelling is down completely and she's pooping and eating. The runny poop she had this afternoon were because of the coconut oil. She's doing really well and i'll keep you guys updated

Oh and guys about the asperin, my chicken is very small. Like a quarter of the size of a normal chicken. And I'm scared that if I go with those dosages - which may be for normal sized chickens - that I give her an overdose. And she's not really in alot of pain, her prolapse is also not really that big compared to other chickens that I have seen while doing research

Glad she is doing better! The aspirin is also an anti inflammatory (which is why it was initially mentioned), and a good thing to keep on hand for human emergencies like heart attacks... Happy New Years! I’m not sure where you are, but I’m thinking on the other side of the date line from me :) May 2019 bring you and your chickens good heath and much happiness!
