My hen is crowing

Has anyone found a way to train them to not crow? I don't mean a crow collar. I have 2 more hens then I'm allowed to have & I fear my hens crowing is gonna lead me to having to get rid of 2 hens if city finds out. My girl is in nightly chicken jail @ the moment till I figure out what to do :(

How old are your birds?
Are you 100% sure you don't have a rooster?

I have only seen crowing hens when they are quite old....

Yup, get a rooster.:)
It's not at all uncommon for a hen to crow and in the event that there is no male in the flock, adopt male like behavior. While backyard chicken keepers may not think having both sexes in a flock is important, it seems that often the chickens know better.

23 weeks, breeder said she is a she. She only seems to crow in the morning but it just started so i don't know if it will progress. One site i found said to separate her from flock till she stops & then reintroduce her. They seem to think it is based on the hen being top dog & pulling her away will reset pecking order. I have attached a picture of her.

I'm not allowed to have a rooster which is why a crowing hen is creating so much stress for me. I don't mind the crowing.

Thanks for including a picture.

That does appear to be a female.

Is it an actual crow or just a loud girl?

I have a few hens that get rather loud first thing in the morning. :hmm

Is she laying yet?

Is it a "bawk bawk bagock" sound?

She is in molt right now, I bet that has something to do with it!!
She lays a blue egg every day since she started laying 1 1/2 yrs ago. She actually often will lay twice a day, she’s my only hen that does that.

Check this out, it shows how eggs are made and how long it takes.

A cock a doodle do for sure :(
Not laying yet...none of them are.
I have another girl who "yells" @ me when i go to let them out in the morning or when she wants something from me :)
LOVE my girls, I don't want to lose any of them but if i can't stop the crowing i don't think i can deal with the anxioty of someone calling the city. We only have 1/4 acre lots in my area & houses all around me.
O, we also have a crow collar (home made) on her right now (3rd day). Real loose @ 1st & tighting a bit every day....so far it doesn't do much good.

If your local ordinance says hens are allowed but not roosters, there's nothing they can do to you legally, and you have no reason to worry.
If code enforcement comes knocking, just take them out back and bury them in a shallow grave. :gig

Just joking, take them out back and show them your hens, they will see you have no roosters and then leave you alone.

Two things.....
See if the breeder will take her back.
Ditch the collar. There have been cases of roosters choking to death trying to swallow food due to the collars.

They are over limit for number of birds allowed. Sadly a loud hen could bring that to the attention of code enforcement.

Yep! Two too many. I reread the entire thread. I missed that post.
