My hubby is a downer -- he said absolutely NO bantams or silkies..

...and....just go ahead and get your silky. Just tell him 'look honey, I got a rabbit'...they just 'man-look' at things anyway, he'll never catch on...

Or get a silkie and don't call it one... my apartment dwelling friend calls hers 'exotic asian birds'

And the whole egg thing, well, we just eat 4 silkie eggs instead of 2 regular size. My 85 year old Farmer Uncle could not figure out why his Grandson wanted those d*** little chickens and now he prefers the little eggs too.

Get a sizzle, "technically" not a silkie but so dang cute and my two have the best personalities. They are hilarious to watch and so friendly. Seramas are another good option, "um dear, you said no bantams and technically seramas are smaller than bantams so I listened to ya"

Seramas are pocket chickens.
Like dog sizes you have tea cup, mini, small, medium, large, and really large (danes).
Chicken sizes are large fowl(standard) , bantams, and pocket size or tea cups.

I have some bantam Wellies. They're beautiful, but not tiny birds. Maybe something like that. I got my first ones during the summer from Mediazeal and I hatch some out and have more eggs in the bator from gamebirdsonly. Same source as my first ones.

My husband had said no Silkies although he always let me have my way. I had to buy the roos in a groups, so brough them home to figure out who stayed. Bill looved at them and shock his head, but then when I was separating who went he looked and saw my one black one. He told me not to get rid of he because there was just something about him. He'd crack up watching that bird.

I'm going to nitpick here-- as someone involved in the dog show world, I have to tell you that there is NO SUCH THING as a "teacup" dog!!

There are "toy" dogs, and they encompass all of the AKC Toy group. "Mini" dogs I suppose would be like the "Miniature Pinscher" and the "Miniature Poodle". Teacup is a scam term used by back yard breeders to make more money off of pups... usually sickly, underbred runts.

Really? My SIL has 2 beautiful "teacup" poodles and they are happy, healthy and very tiny. They have their own play-pen as they are so small the other dogs might accidentally hurt them. I really hope they aren't just cast-offs and runts... my SIL paid some big bucks for those little pooches. Regardless, they are toooooo adorable.

I have always had big dogs my whole life and shown since I was 12.

I have also raised Toy Poodles.

Micro, teacup, tiny are all terms used to discribe the size difference in the Toy Sized dogs. They are all registered and concidered Toys. The terms that some breeders use for Teacup and Tiny refer to dogs under 4 pounds, up to 7" = Teacups and between 4 and 6 pounds up to 8" = Tiny. They are all still only Toys. Some just use the terms to discribe the weight and height difference.

I no longer nitpick................There are too many that argure, but when you submit those papers you are registering a Toy and nothing else. I don't care it they call them thimbles, they will still know they are Toys.

I have to disagree here-my Silkies have done extremely well in our cold winters.

Mine too! They are protected from the north, west and top but otherwise their pen is open. They have a nice insulated coop but I haven't put a heat lamp on the yet and we have had cold weather down in the -30's and colder with windchill. They did just fine.
