My husband is a meaney :(

Ha Ha it really is a win win situation if you think about it!

Yeah, I really don't see that there's a loser in that approach.

Oh, I concede the point....just seems so under-handed.
After something like that, I'd agree to just about anything, though. I suppose that's a good weapon to have in the arsenal.

(I know text is not good at putting across the 'real' meaning of words, so know that I am laughing my butt off over here at this....I am not serious about being against the concept!)

Ha!! DH HAS a Harley... so when/if he starts with me, I always say something like "When I spend as much a month on my chickens (and horse too) as you do on that Harley .. come talk to me ...

The balloon payment on a Harley would be an awesome hobby farm budget wouldn't it?

I know I am being a little cheeky about this too! Let's put it this way, my initial tactic was more accidental than anything. But if it works, why not!

Right?? LOL ... He always comes back with something like "Well, the money I save us in gas by driving it to work a couple times a week ....."

Puleeeeese .. Unless he's saving us ABOVE and BEYOND the monthly payment .... that argument doesn't fly!

And My chickens are sooooooooooo much cuter than his bike ..

Good deal on that. Accidental or planned, if it gets the results you wanted then I call it a win.

My wife didn't try anything like that when she first proposed the idea, but she wore me down over a year's time....the fresh eggs, the fertilizer, oh did I mention fresh eggs....so I finally gave in. I ended up building a Fort Knox (I hope) of a coop and run, and while she's been tending the garden, I've been caring for the chickens for the most part....even though part of the deal was that she would feed, water, and clean them. I enjoy it too much (don't let her know that!).
I'm also the reason we have five chickens instead of just three. I fell in love with a breed we didn't have, found someone local that raised them, and arranged a deal. Needless to say, I have not been able to live that one down.

I've enjoyed these stories! I was the opposite - my husband had to talk ME into getting chickens. He felt sure I would fall in love with them once we got them, which of course I have.

You all are too much!
Last year I had researched the idea about chicken ownership for about 6 months. I was on the computer and lugging books home from the library so it wasn't a suprise when he asked , "Honey, are we getting chickens now?" Why yes! Yes we are....! "Oh."
This year I bought a total of 16 Marans of different hatch dates allong with the Homebreds raised by Momma out in the coop. "You got a lot of chicks now Honey...what's the plan?" Sell some and eat some. "Oh..... I dont think I can eat them" OK then ...I need a new coop! Hubby winced. But he now knows what a kicka** creme brulee he can make using "real" eggs after one of our diner guest called it the "Nectar of the Gods" SO....a lot will now be forgiven!
