My insurance and weightloss,,, the cost of Jenny Craig is ungodly!!

So if it's not overeating or eating healthy and its not exercise than I think the meds are your only option... why are you looking into
Jenny Craig then.. I guess I'm confused as to what you are looking for? Something to speed up your metabolism?

She went through early menopause that screwed with her system.

I get that part, just not what Jenny Craig would do for that? If it's a hormonal thing, then maybe some type of diet that helps your hormones.
I was just diagnosed with Grave's , that speeds up my metabolism... thats the only plus... How bout a cleanse to rid your body of toxins and see
if it self regulates?

Nancy I'm just checking options and since you see so many ads on TV about JC I just wanted to see what it was about, I'm not really interested in joining it. What happened to me to bring on the abnormal menopause was just a stupid accident that found more serious problems. I had decided I was going to date someone and asked my Dr. about the IUDs,, we went to insert it and found out too late my uterus flipped during the birth of my son so the darn IUD went straight through my wall and into my abdominal cavity. During the emergency surgery to remove it they found spider-web scar tissue around my ovaries and tubes and so they took it out during the surgery. A month before the surgery it showed I was just showing signs of being peri-menopausel and she said within a few years I'd start it early. Then 4 months after the surgery I had gained 30 pounds and at first I was happy because I was so skinny strangers would walk up to me and tell me what I was doing was unhealthy and that I needed help; they thought I was anorexic ot bulimic. I went back to my Dr. who was shocked by the gain and mad at me for not coming in sooner and we found out that I was not peri-menopausal anymore, I was completely through with it and producing absolutely NO hormones anymore. So I did have to make eating adjusments, I could no longer eat like the proverbial "truck driver" and get away with it as I'd had to do in the past. I eat a very healthy and sensible diet, I get my excercise and yes I am healthy, except my bones are not used to carrying this weight, I have very small bones. I still have low blood pressure unless the pressure at work gets out of hand. I'm just frustrated, really, really, frustrated.

Wow that is a wild way to be put into menopause! I have a tipped uterus.. never had kids but my doc tells me every year at my physical... like I can do
anything about it?? But wow your situation would be really frustrating.... I hope you figure something out soon!

I would like to know how one's uterus 'flips' since it is held in place by the birth canal and several ligaments. Could it have tipped forward or backward perhaps?

Anyway, have you been checked for a thyroid disorder? Hypothyroidism will reduce your metabolism; find a good doc who uses the most current standards for comparing your levels, even a value of 2.5 on your T4 (I believe) is too low and needs treatment.

I found some links you might like to look into....

i have heard of that situation. my mother has been told for probably the last 20 years that she was in peri-menopause. finally this last year they said she was going through the full thing. she has to go get a shot in the arm every few months to make it bearable. she's probably 300lbs+/- over the years.

my mom has been over weight all my life and she remembers when she was a teen and told that at 130lbs by a dr that she was overweight then. she had issues conceiving both me and my sister due to a strange medical condition that both me and my sister seem to have started in our very early 20's just like she did.

i was always overweight, my sister was always working out and keeping herself slim till she had kids 11 years ago. but we would still have skipped periods. dr tell us it is just stress (or at least mine did often), mom's just does a DNC every other year and says it is just a change.

my sister has been seeing doctors for the past 5 years to see if there was a more serious problem or if it could have been hereditary. they told her all sorts of things that scared us out of our minds! Chronns, Poly Cystic something, Baschetts-none of these tested positive after being brought up? now she's been diagnosed with sleep apnea and is going to go through with the gastric bi-pass procedure-scarry.

maybe now that my chickens are in the garage coop for the winter i will set up my treadmill and start walking on it while i watch their antics! my dh is the one loosing weight walking the dog, i'll let him do that part so he can get off his meds sooner. strangely while i was working at a restaurant we started doing the Richard Simonds food mover thing (about 12yrs ago and similar to WW) and i was able to lose about 50lbs mostly by changing my diet and some exercise.

i found that when i come home after work as long as i am not sitting in front of the tv or computer i keep myself active on other things and i do not binge on 'garbage' foods while sitting there. that's why i got the dog and the chickens.

maybe we need to start a weight loss thread and see if we can keep up with ideas and solutions to loosing weight while figuring out some good meals/menus for at home. we can post our results on a certain day of the week or when we feel good/bad or need some solutions.

interesting, someone told me about the HYPOthyroidism a few years ago and i mentioned it while at the dr. and the dr said they don't test that unless you are underweight. i think she heard hyper and didn't realize it could also go the other way too! the skinny twit! (though i usually see the nurse practitioner instead of the dr that runs the place)

Hypo= underactive
Hyper= overactive

Graves disease is the result of overactive thyroid.

Hypothyroidism can be traced though families; my dad, mom, and sister have it, I would be considered at sub-clinical levels (low enough to have symptoms but not low enough for treatment).

The levels on the test also depend on what time of day you have the blood drawn since your levels fluctuate through the day.

OP, good luck finding something that works; I hate struggling with my own weight issues and I have not even gotten close to menopause!

My aunt, grandma and cousin on my mom's side all have HYPO and now I'm diagnosed with HYPER. It was found in my yearly blood tests during my physical.
Then they did more extensive blood tests and other tests to diagnose.

It sounds like they did blood work for Writer if they found out she has no hormones, but double checking cant' hurt.
