My Ivy.. Latest Relapse...She's Gone

It makes you wonder about the hatchery stock sometimes.....

I hope Ivy will let herself go and sleep peacefully. After all, you have done everything comfortable as you possibly can for her. It sucks!

She's such a lucky bird to so well cared for and loved so deeply. Thank you for your compassion and caring.

I really think this is what is going on with Barbara. Her when I touch her breast area all I can feel is bone. She has lost a lot of weight, even though she is still eating and her belly is big. Does Ivy keep her tail down and have a hard time walking? Poor girls.

Yes, she does tuck her tail a bit and her abdomen is full of fluid/yolk/infection. I do think that's what is wrong with your Barbara, Robin. And you can't do much except try strong doses of penicillin and hope it works. However, the relief will be temporary, most likely. The cycle will repeat itself like it has with Ivy. She is sitting down and seems fairly content in the house, not nervous to be in here at all. She is so much warmer and as comfortable as she can be in her condition.

Not that it will give you any comfort but I have cried so many tears for you and Ivy - if tears could cure your heartache and cure Ivy then my tears would be worthwhile - you are such a strong character and so caring - if this world were full of people like you it would be a much better place to live in!

Cynthia you are an inspiration to us all

Best wishes

Suzie:hugs

Oh, Suzie, that is so sweet of you to say, but I'm not the special one here. These precious hens go through so much every day. I remember the day I named Ivy. She and Lexie came to me through an unexpected turn of events and I looked at her in the brooder and just said, "You look like an Ivy to me." She has been a joy to have.

I'm so sorry Cynthia

It's heartbreaking enough to lose one of our birds, it hits you even harder when you've fought so hard to give them back their quality of life. Wishing you and your beloved girl a gentle and peaceful transition.
