My Ivy.. Latest Relapse...She's Gone

Ivy is going downhill. She is hunched up and staggers a bit if jostled. She is hanging out with Ginger and Olivia, the other two suffering from the same infection/internal laying. It's like they know, they see it in each other.

Poor thing. We have had her a year longer than we would have by treating her with the penicillin, but this is the third time for her and it will just keep happening, over and over, we feel. So, we're going to let nature take its course this time.

I feel your pain, Cynthia. Other than stinking up my house with her garlic poops, Barbara is about the same as she was 9 days ago.

Thanks, Carrie. Robin, some of the reproductive stuff is just not fixable with these birds, other than surgery/hysterectomy. Their bodies go through so darn much, producing an egg every day. Poor sweet hens.

I wish I could teach my vet to do a hysterectomy on a chicken...... he's not a bird vet, mostly a farm vet though and will help me do things that I need help with within his capabilities. He helped me with the leg on Sheldon my handicapped swan, didn't even charge me.............. so sorry she has this illness.

Cyn, I'm so sorry to hear this. I know you've done everything you possibly can for Ivy. For all of your girls actually. Much as it grieves me to say so, I think you're right....it's time to let her go. All you can do now is make her as comfortable as you can. Know that we're here, and praying that her transition from this world to the next is as painless and easy as possible.

Poor little Ivy. I had so hoped to be privileged enough to someday have one of her daughters.

Selfish of me I know...but there it is. Through you Cyn, I feel as though I have known your girls as well as if they were my own. I shall miss Ivy when she leaves us.

So much life comes and goes before our eyes and hearts. It can be agony if we don't find a philosophical path. I know you are finding yours.
