My Ivy.. Latest Relapse...She's Gone

She's beautiful,, she does look tired though, what a sweetie!

I'm having issues with DH not wanting me to try to make her empty her crop. We had one choke to death when she was throwing up during a bad bout of sour crop caused by the co-op's feed (they had a bsmt flood, this was a plastic bag so couldn't tell it had gotten wet till it was close to empty. She started throwing up on her own as I was carrying her to the house. He has flashbacks to her going limp in our arms, I think). I need to make her more comfortable, though, darn it. Guess I'll have to do it on my own. She wont even touch yogurt, one of her favorites. Yes, you can see her weariness in her eyes. She has been drinking like a fish, so not sure why she'd be dehydrated, except that her poop is just clear water now, for the most part.

Let her out of the broody pen to roam. Her crop is empty! So guess the treatment has worked. She will eat nothing except bugs and clover, though. Refused eggs and yogurt, her usual favs.

Sometimes they just know what they need Cyn. Like when the dog has a sour stomach. He'll turn his nose up at a piece of steak if grass is what is body craves. Though, after he has gotten his fill of grass, he'll surely come back looking for that chunck of steak!

Hopefully this is just Ginger and Mother Nature knowing what she really needs right now, and not a loss of interest in her favorite things.

I agree, Amy! Another thing-she isn't drinking like crazy like she has been for a few days, either. Guess she worked it out! Now, wish she could work out what's going on with her reproductive system.

Oh Cyn, its so hard.

I was out in the yard watching Red yesterday. Poor dear has hung on all this time as well. I didnt think she was getting enuff to eat, not strong enuff to push for food lately. So I brought her in and fed her well, gave her some goodies, let her spend the night inside, but she is truly an outdoor chicken. Unlike Fussy, who hated it out here, Red loves it, so it was back to the coop tonite.

She is tired tho, I can see it in her eyes as well. Its so very very hard to lose our first chickens. She has only laid one egg in the last year, my poor baby.

Red and Lily have such strong wills to live. Lily is doing quite well, her hernia hasnt gotten any worse so I can only hope it stays that way.

I have been away for awhile while visiting the newest Grandson. I haven't seen any updates on this thread, and was wondering how Ivy and Ginger are doing now? I am hoping no news is good news !

Ginger is so pretty..her face reminds me of my Bella. *sigh* I almost wish these three girls would just pass on...bless them they fight so hard and so long.

How is Ivy?

Ivy isn't doing well. Her color is very dark, her eyes look tired and she breathes heavily when she sits and puts pressure on her abdomen. She still has interest in her morning scratch and is walking around, with many resting periods. She has been here before and gotten better, though. When things look like the end is really near, we will help her along. Sweet Ivy will be so missed, especially by Lexie. Ivy's daughter Fern was sitting on the roost near her mother, though there is no way she can know that Ivy is her mama. Ivy is roosting on the bottom rung rather than the fourth one up, the one that seems to be the favorite (or maybe the reserved?) seat of all head hens here.

Ginger is still the same, but shows her fatigue by standing and snoozing on her feet quite often. Her color is fine and her abdomen is nowhere near as large as Ivy's or Olivia's.
