My Ivy.. Latest Relapse...She's Gone

I'll be fine. After years of raising chickens and going through all their dramas, I have to be a bit philosophical about it. They all have had fabulous lives, lots of fresh air and sunshine, dry and ventilated quarters, great food, etc. They have been able to free range and get exercise and all the petting they wanted (except Gypsy--she never gets enough, LOL) All in all, a pretty nice existence for a bunch of chickens.

And that's the whole point right there! Ain't it?

My daddy told me years ago: "Amy, when you grow up and have a place of your own, you can have whatever and however many of any animal you choose to have. But you darn well better give them the very best life you can possibly imagine, because they're only there because you want them to be." That admonition always stuck in my head. I'm so glad that I'm not the only one who thinks that way. My dad would have just loved you to pieces Cyn! You carry his philosophy of animals, and the keeping thereof, at your very core.

It's an honor for me to call you "friend"!

Cynthia, there is a crown waiting for you for good stewardship of your animals- and I think that crown will be encrusted with jewels- one for each of the animals you have loved, cherished and given a marvelous life- dang, girl! It's gonna be heavy, and you'll probably need help casting it at Jesus' feet. I'll be wearing shades when you walk by. . .

I don't need credit for just doing what I enjoy and being who I am. These sweet girls (and guys) give so much to me, it's the least I can do for them, to look after their welfare to the best of my ability. As for reward in heaven, I can just see me walk in, look down to find that sweet Gypsy at my feet begging to be picked up. Walking through eternity, carrying a spoiled chicken...

Ooooh!!! Now that would be a vision to behold, wouldn't it? It's what I hope for myself too.....if I can just get there!

To see my Gimpy Girl, Lacey and LizzyBeth all waiting to show me where Daddy is!

If Heaven doesn't have chickens, I don't wanna go!

Ivy is still toughing it out, against all odds. Ginger, however, will most likely go before Ivy does. She is refusing food, her crop is "bloaty" and she just has little energy. Still, she keeps on walking, like a self winding watch. Here she is yesterday.

At least she got a good color on her wattles but looks like she is probably dehyrated. As long she can do what she wants to do, thats the best you can do for her. At least she is doing ok.
