My Love Affair With Ducks...

That’s where a container with a lid comes in handy. Put meal worms inside the can put the lid on and when you want the ducklings to come or follow just start shaking the bag and using a special word I actually have a specific whistle with mine. Start sharing some kitten kibble for treats and to train them now. Add kitten to your container with the meal worms. Kitten food has smaller pieces easier to eat.

Yesterday, MK and I decided to take the ducklings outside (in between storms) to one of the mud holes in our driveway. This was the Ducklings First Time Seeing A Mudhole and they weren’t too sure about it. But it was all good in the end.
Dangerous mudhole! - Let's walk around it. - Could be sponge-quack hiding in the murky water…

They definitely weren’t sure of their surroundings and I know they don’t know what “Come Here Babies” mean either!
You will be surprised how many different words/phrases/sentences your duckies will be able to »understand«! They don't really understand the meaning of the words, but they know what you want them to do when you say certain phrases and make certain gestures.
And they learn so quickly: It took my flock just two days to understand »Kommt mit, ihr könnt 'raus« (Come with me, you can go outside) while walking to the gate to open it.
If i just walk to the gate they all just look at me. When i say the "magic" words they all jump up and come running. Two days! I'm baffled and you will be too!

It sure is amazing how some are scared of EVERYTHING and others will chase the vacuum while you are trying to clean! My Cayugas will chase cats and birds out of the yard but a squirrel.... they won‘t get 5 feet of one of those... 🙄
Interesting! Here every squirrel that dares to walk on the ground and steal some sunflower seeds is fair game for the White Layers. Blanca Duck has chased countless »bushy tail mice« up the next tree and sat under the tree waiting for her meal to come back. She is very patient…

We were out really close to the front pasture where the Canadian geese hang out and were all minding our own business. Then the Wild Geese Notice The Ducklings. It scared me just a bit because they started making their way toward us. They were still about 50 feet from us when they took flight...and we were in their path! I really began to panic just a bit because the geese flew right at us and then at the last second flew straight up and on over behind us and kept going. I suppose they wanted to get a better look at the new things that had infiltrated their property. :idunno
