My Love Affair With Ducks...

Are they firmer like duck eggs are then? I want ALL the birds, so Turkeys are going to happen one day. I just need land :)

By firmer I meant the yolk is tougher and the whites are runnier. The shells themselves are much harder to crack and the membrane holds them together better.

As far as dux eggs I am scared to death to eat one of them.

@memphis used to sell eggs for 3 dollars apiece to a high brow bakery for fancy cakes and stuff.

So there is a market.

Also you better check with you NPIP people, I had to fight like crazy to have chickens and turkeys both. They wanted them in separate coops and not free ranging. It took me a while but I managed to have both.

There are always people on Craigslist looking for turkey eggs to hatch in the spring.

or you just eat them yourself.
How do boiled, scrambled or fried turkey eggs taste?

Very good information about NPIP. Why in the world would it matter? It’ll be my luck they’ll say nope.

Here in Alabama I don’t know of any snooty bakeries I could sell to, but I need to start looking.

The duck egg membrane seems extremely tough to me. It’s all I can do to poke my finger through it.

Hold up -- now you want to give your dux a break? What's the catch? lol.
I don't want to apply any additional, artificial light to the dux to force their bodies to produce more eggs that they would naturally do with the scarcer foraging resources they hava available during the winter time.

Why use your finger I use a sharpened stick or hammer to break dux eggs that way I get to keep my finger if there is a fetal dux inside and we know they won’t hatch.
