my male cat pee'ed on my new slate floor.

I think I've seen that one in the pet store.

You want to see the floor now, or once it's grouted and sealed? It's still got a thin-set haze, and tools everywhere.

My cats are loving that room otherwise. They are stretching and running and lolling about. I hope I fix the problem so they can keep hanging out in there.

There is a product called Natures Miracle for Cats. They have it for dogs too.
It works great. Pour it on, let it dry and it neutralizes the smell totally. I have a very sensitive nose and I can smell pee and mice anywhere. It drives my DH nuts. ("No honey, there are no mice in the house." Yeah right.) You can get it at any pet store.

Good Luck

Never use ammonia ~ cats urine smells like ammonia and it will encourage repeat soiling. Get an enzyme cleaner such as Simple
Solution or Nature's Miracle to clean it. Enzyme cleaners can take a while to work so you should soak the stain to get into the pores. As slate is somewhat porous you may need to seal the tiles or replace the stained ones.

Ooh, another good idea! I can try that for the one spot, but I probably have to find the bottle of haz-mat enzyme to mop the entire floor.

I was definitely going to seal the floor after I grouted it. Luckily, he only pee'ed on one tile. I got to it before it leaked to the edge. He is now ignoring the spot, so I guess that's good. He has a bit of an OCD personality. If something bothers him in the litterbox, he will scratch around in there for half an hour. If he is ignoring the floor now, it hasn't reached the level of a compulsion.

I guess I'll seal it with several coats once I solve this.

I use about a cup of vinegar to a gallon of water to mop all my floors,at least the ones, not carpeted. If I had my way all the carpet in the house would be pulled up and tile installed. A friend of mine has hardwood floors and they are beautiful. I asked her what she used to keep them so nice and she told me vinegar, thats when I started using it to mop with. cleans, disinfects, and deodorizes all at one time. marrie

I'm with you about the carpet. I have hardwood and slate. I have a few small area rugs that can be taken out to clean.

Does the house smell like vinegar when you finish cleaning?

Only a little bit is you use white vinegar, and it's not unpleasant. I think you need to grout, seal and have a serious conversation with the offender.

And no ammonia, it attracts them. (Some cats also go nuts over bleach, too!)

I had a serious conversation with him WHILE he was peeing. He actually stopped midstream.
