Why not clip a wing?

You could fatten them up

I couldn't keep Mrs. Muscovy from roosting on my car... all the time. I'd shoo her off, turn around, and she'd fly right back. Mr. Muscovy would try to follow her, but usually crash landed into the other ducks.

Finally I made some nice roosts closer to the ground in the area I wanted them to stay in. She would do a little bit of wandering, but since he would usually stay on one of the new roosts she started spending most of her time with him.

All 4 of my Muscovy's roost. The girls are very good at perching on a small high up roosts, Godzilla, our drake, is not so graceful, he roosts about a foot off the ground and just steps up onto the perch. I figure they wouldn't do it if they didn't want to, those four don't do anything unless they want to.

Their flight feathers are clipped but they can still get about 4 feet off the ground for short distances. I am contemplating not clipping them this year, but I think my husband will flip out if they roost on his truck. Maybe if we build them loads of other places to land they will not land on the cars? Wishful thinking I know. Or maybe that will be incentive for him to always park his truck in the garage...hmmmm.

Very funny - and very typical! I enjoyed watching our ducks start their flying career. Our drake would face-plant into the ground on many occasions, and that was from 4 ft up. He still sits right on the edge of things and ponders what to do. You can see him almost leap .... then not. He'll sort of look around (I'm sure hoping his female partner isn't watching him make a fool of himself) and then finally.... nope. Eventually he'll make it down, but it's taken some time for him to get his confidance.
