Your are right - trees have to be large to sustain a deal of wildlife. I don;t see any of those wild bird here nesting in my spindly little apple tree!!!!!!!yeah, but the young small trees don't create the rainforest enviorment that our planet needs to maintain weather and temp stability, etc.
The only thing you can do is plant. It will make you feel better .Our double lot was bare compared to each neighbor who has awesome 100 feet trees. We had 2 rotting apple trees, grass, and fill dirt.Someone went crazy stripping the yard.It has been 5 years since we moved in and things are looking better. I still wish for a huge tree.Oh well next house.Grow things,it will help you feel better.
It is certainly a shame when people go all chainsaw on what took years to grow. I still miss the tree I had to cut down, but it was 2 feet from the foundation and that is a no-no. He might miss some of those trees once they are down.
I bet he will concrete or gravel much of the yard!
It does seem pointless to cut them down and burn them.
People cut down trees for a lot of reasons. I have clients that harvest timber at a sustainable rate and will never cut it faster than it grows. Others want the big bucks fast but they all have to replant by law.
Have you asked the guy why he is cutting them? I am currently logging a parcel for a guy who owns a restaurant and is making space for greenhouses to grow his vegetables for his business because he has the land and wants good quality ripe produce. The trees are blocking the light.
Here we pay taxes on our trees they are considered property ie; property taxes and that gives us ownership.
Try talking to him but refrain from projecting an opinionated attitude, you may convince him to leave some. I have seen some folks pay the neighbor to leave trees but I do not reccomend that because the next guy may not honor the agreement.
The land you live on use to be wonderful with mature trees and bushes. I do not know of any land except maybe the grass lands of the middle USA that could be completely flat and treeless.
I do agree with some above. If he's doing this on your land, he can easily, easily be charged. If it's on his land, it's a disgrace, but unless there's a law against it, you can't do a thing.
