My new muscovy ducklings!

Do you know what kind of feed they were talking about?:)

You shouldn’t have to add any oats to the feed. You can give it to them as a snack if you want when they are bigger. @Miss Lydia you don’t typically add oats correct?

Do you have a picture of the nutrition label? We should be able to tell you what if anything is needed.;)
They were talking about high protein. I am using purina flock raiser which has 20%. Miss Lydia does cut her feed with oats. That is why I asked. I will see if I can find where she posted that.

This is the page that gives the percentages, but the one that talks about cutting it with oats is not online. I will find that section in my own book and paraphrase here.

Well if that’s what they are suggesting I’m sure it’s solid advice! And oats is a fantastic way to do it. Just a little math involved.:highfive:

I think FR is 20% protein
Oats are added to cut the protein to prevent angel wing. Since my ducklings are out with mamas I don't add oatmeal or oats to my FR. But for brooder raised ducklings I'd do it just because they are getting a varied diet like those on the ground right after hatch.

I have fed oats to my birds added to their fermented feed, But goodness saying how much is right for ducklings and it's usually around 3 weeks old I would have to guess. Maybe a Tablespoon to a cup of feed? I buy organic bulk off Amazon[just me].

Start giving them chick grit that way you can shred [tiny pieces]some romaine lettuce float it in their water to start giving them other things in their diet. Put the chick grit in a separate bowl from feed.

Hmmm. I thought it was you.
Yes, I haven't fed any extras yet because I have to get chick grit. I have regular grit, but imagine it is too big?
I am making a bigger brooder this weekend. They have no room for any extras at the moment. ;)

Once you get your new brooder set up go dig them up a piece of sod. let them play in it root in it they will have a blast and it will get their immune systems ready for the move out of doors. I always do this with my babies if I have any inside. They will munch on the weeds /grass . Yep reg grit is too large you could take a hammer to it.:)
