Only to the trained eye, could someone pic a midnight bs hen out of a group of mixed blackshoulder hens. Once you know, you never second guess yourself. BTW good lookin pair!

What would one look for to tell the difference?

Their color isn't the kind of obvious beauty of the more colorful IB, but there really is something about them... the seller said that these two are 5 years old (makes me think of peadaddy's post about 5 yrs/months). My original pair will be 5 in the spring...

One must be shown, but a key identifier is the colour on the upper neck/back of the head, it should match the male's colour.

Kbell, where do you get your birds? In terms of backyard chickens, I'm not that far from you, about 300 miles. Am in the process of building a pen for peafowl now. I mainly raise ducks and pheasants, but have others as well. Trying to find atrio of India Blues and Lady Amherst.
