My new Seramas from ChickenAddict *PIC HEAVY!!*

I caved and bought a more powerful flashlight.

The one from ChickenAddict that I thought was clear had a blood ring. Opened it, no embryo. The others all had obvious veining and dark blobs and wrigglers

The eggs from the swap, 5 were clear, 2 more had very small blobs and veins, and the other three had massive blobs and wrigglers. I put the three in the hatcher with ChickenAddict's eggs. The miniblobs and clears I left in the 'bator, just in case. If they don't develop by the time the others hatch, I'm gonna crack 'em and find out why they quit on me.

The tiniest egg from the swap has a wriggler in it, and I'm excited. I don't know if that's a banty cochin or the potential silkie that my swap partner taunted me with

Guess I'll find out in 4-5 days.

Awwww sorry to hear the serama egg was a no go

Its hit or miss with dahlia because she is so small her fertility isn't the best. I'm having a heck of a time candling the serama eggs under the broody, they should be hatching next week so its hard to see a darn thing so im hoping for the best

Is peaches getting closer to laying yet?

The Serama egg is doing just fine. It was one of the others that was a blood ring. The Serama egg has a chick wiggling and kicking like an encapsulated little Ninja

I think Peaches is getting ready? Her comb's really red. She keeps kicking herself into a nest, but she's not doing the step-step-squat egg dance yet. Tenny's gotten obsessively protective of her and she's responded by becoming codependent with him
big_smile.png
If he's out of the cage, she starts making distressed little noises until he goes running back. If she's out of the cage, he patrols around where she is and chases everything away from her, be it escaped baby button quail or the cat

If it hatches, Ninja it is.

They're doing good. Chicken's chilled out around Tolly, and I caught them sleeping in the nest box together, which was really funny because they don't both really FIT in that box

Chicken's feathers are growing back now that she's not being mated to death. T'Oliver shows no interest in her that way. He talks to her all the time. She just looks at him and occasionally peeps back. Mostly he still thinks his proper place is in my lap. He got banished from the lap tonight when he decided to bite my lip.

Not hard. My lips were chapped and I think he thought he was helping but OMG did that hurt!

LOL i bet it hurt. Our little silver laced cochin was named bing because she pecked nick in the eyeball. One second shes snuggled under his beard and all the sudden BING right in the eye. Luckily he won't be looking like a pirate anytime soon but he no longer trusts her around his peepers.

WE HAVE ACHIEVED PIP!! One of the eggs marked 1/18 is pipped, peeping and rocking. That's one of the fridge eggs
big_smile.png
It's also tiny so I don't know if it was a bantam cochin or a Serama? Guess I'll find out sometime tomorrow. It's the weirdly shaped one that was pointy on both ends and put in the turner upside down for a few days. Oops. It pipped about the middle of the egg, but it's still moving and peeping, so.. *sits on hands*

[edit:] 12:41pm - no progress on original pip, but still cheeping and rocking. However? Two more pips. I think those are two of the eggs from the Jan. swap.

YAY!!!! There was only one serama egg in the bunch the fridge eggs were from the cochins, I bet you got one of my brown/red pullet eggs there. They are as small as the serama eggs. Its strange it pipped out of the side of the egg, hope it makes it out of there soon

. No pips yet for me but a whole lotta rocking going on. I can't sleep from the excitement lol

Woken at 6:30 by cheeping. The second egg to pip was the first to hatch. Tiny!Egg has made no progress but is still cheeping and has an air hole. The other egg has made no progress and has no full hole.

Don't know if that one's going to make it.

The one that hatched is a white chick. It's another of the 1/18 eggs. If the huge eyes are anything to go by, it's a cochin. It's still at the slimy stumbly stage. It is peeping up a storm. Here's to hoping the others come out and play soon!
