Pull open the corners of each section and see if any chicks are dead. You won't hurt the birds and you will see what the damage is before you leave the post office. After all, if the deaths are due to the negligence of the Postal Service they should pay for the damage. Once the birds leave the premises you can not prove the birds were dead at the post office.

That sounds like a pretty reasonable compromise...that way it isn't all the way open with them desperately wanting to get out.​

They didn't come on any of the trucks into the post office today...The lady said they might still come in tonight or tomorrow. I don't think they will. I think they'll show up tuesday- dead. But I'm hoping and praying otherwise.
I think all boxes containing live animals should have tracking numbers.

Also when the box comes, I'm going to find out what airports the chicks went through and am going to write letters to the airline companies they were supposed to be shipped on (if I can find out which companies)--to let them know it not only costs their passengers when they cancel flights, but it hurts the cargo as well......
I am so angry and sad right now. I have ordered SIX boxes of chicks before and NEVER did they get lost in the mail. Our postal service has NO consideration. I just hope that wherever the chickies are, that someone has taken pity on them and has tried to give them water or keep them out of the temp extremes.

Well then I hope you at least bring food and water and I would bring a larger container to place the survivors in, with a heat source, and plan to sit and let them eat and drink before any trip home. I totally understand being upset but the baby chicks are the biggest victims here and I would be far more concerned about their comfort and stress level than any shipping refund or making a point to the postal workers.

This is one of many lost shipments recently. There is never an excuse good enough for them to lose a box of live animals...certainly not one as loud as chicks. However, my policy is get the babies home, make them comfortable, take a body count and then raise he**. The living babies come first, before my tantrum, in my house.​

cakle is the hardest hatchery to get ahold of.ive tried for 2 weeks 10 or more times a day an all i get is a busy signal.i waited month an a half for a order of 25 silver laced windotes.email them over 3 weeks ago about a order of ducks still no answer.ive found that they are the cheapist but ot sure wether they are worth the hassle you have to go through with .ive also got a order in for light bramas for 2 weeks i order online an still no answer.this will probally be my last from them have bought over 400 babys from this year alone. unhappy in ok

That's sad. I have ordered from Ideal Poultry and I always get them sooner then they tell me to expect them. It's heart wrenching to see how careless either the postal service or Cackle could be especially with live chicks.

I just want to say that I think its great that the US PO allows baby chicks to be shipped, but these are not like those lost letters you receive 20 years from now. I wouldn't even want to think of receiving that box in 20 years. I am surprised the Cackle didn't place a tracking number or confirmation on there.
