My order from Cackle....UPDATE: THEY'RE HERE but the saga continues...

Did you ever find your chicks??? I placed an order with them a month ago and waited for three weeks only to find out 2 days before they were supposed to be shipped to me that Cackle doesn't ship to Virginia anymore.

Please update us on your little chicks.

Cackle is a small famiily run business. Not one of those huge hatcheries like you see in the videos where the chicks are shot down metal shoots to be boxed. Everything is done by hand, including answering the phone. There is just a couple of people who do customer service over the phone. You have to have to have time to sit down and keep hitting redial to get someone. They told me this year that if business continues to grow like it has this season they are going to bring some outside folks in.

They have the healthies chicks that I've ever seen come out of a hatchery. I'm sorry you haven't recieved your chicks, but hopefully they will be strong enough to make it through all of this. I would imagine that this is a PO problem. Someone else on here a couple of months ago had this to happen. Its just hard to control what happens when they leave the hatchery. I think alot of po workers are just hardened to it and don't put the effort into making sure this animals make it to us safely. Thank goodness this doesn't happen often though.

I have read that there were alot of cancel flights this past week, maybe that has something to do with the delays.

Gwen, I have to ask what hatchery have you seen or heard that does that? I haven't heard of any hatchery nowadays sending chicks down tubes to be boxed.

McMurray sends them down chutes. Saw it on Dirty Jobs. I must say I was shocked to see how they travel along conveyor belts and go down metal chutes.

Really? That's crazy! Actually, that's really sad. I saw the video from Ideal and they roll them out. I could never imagine doing that and risk hurting a chick. For what its worth, I don't order from McMurray, and I don't think I would after hearing that. It's just a preference of my opinion.

UPDATE: After calling the Post office AGAIN this morning (even the post office employee agrees wherever they are IF they did indeed ship, they're dead.) I called Cackle. I explained the problem and was put on hold for 15 minutes....She then told me that there 'was no paperwork indicating they shipped' but that from their records it looked like they shipped. She also agreed if they did ship, they were dead. So...she said she would re-ship my order today and they will arrive Wednesday. I asked for insurance and how much did it cost, and she said they'd take care of it. So, *hopefully* my order will arrive this wednesday.

Eek... I hope for the babie's sakes, that they didn't ship!!

chicks in the mail always make me nervous. I have yet to try ordering them this way.

IMO, sounds like an issue with the hatchery. If they told you they'd shipped and now have no record of it, but say they must've shipped? Yeah...I don't believe it.

I agree. I would order from somewhere else. it doesn't seem like they have their story or records straight. I also agree with puckbunny, and hope they never shipped out as well. Good luck and let us know what happens.

How much business does cackle get??? I know that no one is perfect, and if they are in fact trying to do everything by hand sometimes things can get messed up. I've never ordered from them, but one person on here posted that they are very healthy chicks. Sometimes mistakes happen, sometimes things don't go they way they're planned. There's always human error. What I would be upset about is if the customer service didn't fix the problem, whether it was their error or the post office's. Sure, it sucks, but at least they're fixing it. Sometimes things happen, and if your chicks come in healthy and strong and they successfully fixed the problem without charging you more then be happy
