Pearl only has 4 toes so she isnt a faverolle. But are marans that fluffy legged. The blue splash isnt that fuzzy.daisy and rosie have definite muffs!

Oh dear, all day I've been misreading posts, I have a cold that has my head pounding, I am so sorry, I should probably keep my mouth shut. After a better look, I believe you are right that she could be Cochin, I think Marans are very sparse on the leg feathers, again forgive me.

Other than the little splay leg/shipping stress(?) Salmon Fav. I am missing a chick. I was supposed to get 2 rare marans collection and I believe I only got one, either a blue splash marans or a white variety. Still not sure. So I have emailed them and they want to see pictures to help me determine what I do have. So hard to get all the pictures!

They are cute. How many chicks in total are you suppose to have?

I was supposed to get 16. Anyone had trouble with them shipping new chicks after not receiving all of them due to their mistake? Also, I don't know if they will replace the spraddle legger. I they do, then I'll have to order one additional chick to meet the shipping requirements.

Picked my bantam chicks up at 6:30 am yesterday. Out of 15 had 1 DOA, 1 passed in the evening, and 2 more are struggling. For some reason, I thought they were going to include a heat pack and grow gel with my chicks. They did not include those or any "extras". 1 was laying on its back this morning and I saw bubbles come out of its mouth, so I turned it over.

I'm not actually crying but it is difficult. Anxiety is my enemy!

I'm planning to use mamma heating pad, but used a light last night so I could keep vigil to help everyone make it to food and water. They are so exhausted from shipping. I provided boiled egg yolk (haven't seen them all eat it yet), honey electrolyte water (no vitamins yet, getting that today), fermented feed, dry feed (loose on the floor).

I can't figure out how to pry their beaks open. Can't get my finger nail in the middle, it's so tight. When I finally do get it open, closes before I can get anything in there. Any suggestions?

In 3 years, this is my first loss. All previous chicks came from local feed stores. So I know loss is par for the course, especially for shipped chicks. But is there anything more I could or should be doing?

So sorry to hear about your babies! I have horrible anxiety as well and when I got my first chicks 2 1/2 weeks ago, I was a basket case hoping all would be ok (I only ordered 4 standard) and they were fine especially after I gave them some electrolytes and probiotics. I can't give much help on first aid but as far as the heating pack, I thought mine were not shipped with one until I took the nesting material out and found it at the bottom of the box, underneath all the nesting. Have you checked there? I will send positive vibes your way and hope everyone else will pull through!

I checked just now and no heat pack. Just emailed them for credit even though I would much rather have had the chicks.

I will update how many survivors I have when I figure it out for sure.

i do this with all my babies. I put them on a shelf devorated of course and take their pic.

I know they give credit for DOA but not sure about splayed leg but if you want more chicks you have to add to meet minimum and wait until your order can be met if you want the same kind.my heat pack was under nesting materials too. But i read where yours wasnt. Sorry.

I have found when chicks are weakened from shipping they need the heat a heat lamp provides as they can't always make the decision to stay under a heating pad. That's why I like a heat lamp, I can control things better.

So sorry about your chicks, some just can't make it. I hatched chicks the same day my ordered ones were hatched and you can really tell the difference on some of them, those first few days in a box can be too much for some. I'm seriously thinking about only hatching. Hopefully the rest will be okay for you.

And I just lost all of my MPC chicks except one. Our poodle mix and Great Pyr have acknowledged, but shown no aggression towards any of our chickens at all. The chicks have been exposed outside for 3 weeks. The chicks were almost totally feathered and have been out free ranging, with a panic room supplied with food and water for days. I counted everyone made sure everyone was gtg and ran to the store for ONE hour. While I was gone (husband and fil were home), a cloud burst came through with great peals of thunder. I pulled in right after the storm subsided to 8 dead chicks in the yard.

Of course, ALL my MPC one and onlys that were named that I really really wanted were among the casualties. Sooooo upset! And I was JUST telling my neighbor how "the dogs don't bother the chickens." Figures.
