My pic of eggs & mini rant...

My neighbors turn down my eggs now, they say they just got some from the store.... I think it is because I don't wash mine... you get them au naturale!!!!! People are so odd sometimes..

Oh, but they're so pretty! Around here it's the opposite. People just love marans and EE eggs, but everything else is too boring. They're all the same on the inside! I understand them not wanting banty eggs though, unless you charged less for them.

Glad we don't have these issues were we live. Besides you don't eat the shells! The real egg is inside and that's still the same as any other color from a healthy free range chicken.

I was talking to a friend's daughter the other day and she was fascinated that my chickens lay colored eggs, even green ones. She is begging her mom to make her a breakfast with my green eggs. Even the mom was very interested in our Q & A. I hope in some way I've changed her outlook, and maybe her whole families' by showing them, hey, the kid wants colored eggs! Let her have colored eggs!

Someone at work asked if I could bring in a dozen eggs for them to try. She came in that following Monday and said: "Oh they really tasted good...but the shells were really hard like rocks. We were worried that meant they were old so we got rid of the others and didn't use them."

I was like..... ?!?!?!?!?! they were fresh from the birds within 2 days lol That is how they SHOULD be lol

And then she says: "Oh really? I didn't know that... oh and some of them turned green so we threw them out."

I had told them when I gave them the eggs that they were all different colors too

Those eggs are fantastic looking. Before we began raising chickens and getting eggs (all of our eggs are brown) we would have gladly paid $4.00 per dozen for fresh, home raised eggs. The real problem is that people do not really know where their food comes from. If they could see chickens in a typical commercial laying operation they would probably never eat another store bought egg again. For that matter if they could see a typical chicken farm they probably would never eat chicken again and that goes for most other animals also. I do not sell our eggs. Whern we get a spare dozen we give them to one of our neighbors and they are so happy to get them because they can see how we raise and keep our chickens.

My hubby's boss buys my eggs all brown, but we are going to slip in a duck egg and see if he notices the flavor difference. I didn't. I currently get a dozen every 2 days. Oh yeah got a recipe that take a whole dozen eggs to make EASY CHEESY FRITTA, its so good.

I have been buying fresh, free ranged eggs from the source for several years. I had always purchased eggs from the farmers market while I was in a large city, then had to buy from the store and always purchased brown, grain-fed, organic eggs. They always seemed fresher than the white eggs to me, yolks had better color, and shells were harder. The way eggs are supposed to be!

When I was a kid, I participated in 4-H Poultry judging. I knew what a good fresh egg was! So maybe that is why I was so picky about the eggs I bought, even when I was off at college.

I still buy eggs from a distant neighbor as our 2 pullets are only beginning to lay. I got the Marans for the dark brown color of their egg shells. And I wanted even fresher eggs than I was able to buy from the neighbor.

Today I had a friend's college age daughter with me when I went to pick up eggs. I bought 2 dozen and she took the carton that had more colorful shells!

Another convert!!!
