My Rooster laid an egg!!!

Ugh, that's completely and 100% impossible. That would be like saying that your husband got pregnant and gave birth, without having ever had gender realignment surgery. Its just impossible.
Now, all that said... I bet your rooster is actually a pullet that was mistaken for a roo. Do you have a pic of this bird to post?
Yes! I’m not sure it was him but it’s not near the same color as what the rest of them lay! He definitely does look like a rooster, but I have no clue where else the egg could’ve come from, and I read an article about hens that look and act like roosters bc of weird incubation temps

Also, I’ve never hatched any eggs he was the father of, so he could just have the secondary sex characteristics of a rooster

Sounds like a fart egg to me, and any pullet or hen can and will lay them. I don’t know silkies, so I can’t comment on their gender at all, but it is an absolute scientific impossibility for an actual rooster to lay. They simply don’t have the parts.

Yes I do, there are 7 young hens in the coop directly next to them and i expect them to start laying very soon. My original hen laid five eggs of which 3 hatched and the two are roosters and the one is a hen and they are now 8 months old. She and the mother are laying. I read on google that this is a rare ocurrence, but that some young roosters, when making the transition to adulthood, sometimes lay an egg. I wonder if it is edible, what do you think? Best regards

Well I found a tiny egg in one of the nests, together with a normal egg. I just assumed it was one of the pullets. But then my Zimbabwean gardener told me that he learned at school, in Agriculture, that every year a rooster lays 1 little egg. I must say I'm totally blown away. (It's brown, and the size of a pigeon egg.)

I can say none of my roosters have ever laid an egg,,
However this guy

Is suspected of popping out a few leathers, very oddly shaped (kinda like chicks) and no shell. It only happened for a week or 2, and then stopped never happening again. And yes there were pullets his age as well. As a chick everyone said "Look how wide her bottom is, she will lay lots of big eggs". To which I just replied OK,,,then he crowed confirming my thought as to his being a cockerel.
I have many off spring from him, he is a rooster! The weird leathers stopped and egg production did not increase.
I have had the thought that he may have been hatched with both and took on the strongest,, anyway,,, mother Nature can stir things a bit,,,

Lol! What?

These are some of my chicks and that is Alex the Rooster who laid the egg! You can see his tiny egg amongst the others in the tray.

its a physical and biological impossibility for a cockerel or a rooster to lay an egg. Its like having your husband all of a sudden start having a period and later getting pregnant and giving birth. Without surgical alteration its simply impossible.
