View attachment 1690281 What is the cardboard box in your brooder? Is it a wool hen? I used a Mama Heating Pad with my chicks (no heat lamp) and it was a wonderful method. You may want to move your waterer so it's not directly under the lamp... chicks tend not to drink warm water as much and may get dehydrated.

Thank you!!! I'm going to check those out! And I'll move that water... the cardboard box is just a hide to help get away from the heat lamp if needed. BBQ loves sleeping there at the door. I didn't know they had chick heat pads! Cool!

Well, the MHP was just a homemade version of a more expensive chick heating plate, but using a regular heating pad. It's super cool because it serves as a surrogate mother hen... the chicks snuggle up inside a "cave" to warm up but spend most of their time running around and acclimating to their surroundings. They also experience regular day and night cycles so they're totally quiet at night.
