Welcome to BYC!

Hello and welcome to BYC! :frow Glad you joined.
Did your mini farm come with a coop and run? Chicks grow incredibly fast.
With all your neighbors animals visiting so frequently, you might have problems with them going after your chickens. My neighbors GSD killed one of mine.

I'm worried about that! My nextdoor neighbor has chickens so his LSD I'm not too scared of but there are 12 dogs that come say hi. We have a run but working on the house now. I'm trying to think of all the safety issues but I am also aware i might loose some as we're planning to free range on our 6 acres.

What is the cardboard box in your brooder? Is it a wool hen? I used a Mama Heating Pad with my chicks (no heat lamp) and it was a wonderful method. You may want to move your waterer so it's not directly under the lamp... chicks tend not to drink warm water as much and may get dehydrated.
