So my speckled Sussex Dr. Grant had sour crop. Now her crop seems to be filled with liquid and every time I try to empty it out it filled right back up again. I did my treatment for sour crop- didn’t work. Her crop was hanging very low so I put a ‘crop bra’ on her for pendulous crop- isn’t working. Her comb is shriveled and she closes her eyes and lays around all day. She is bone-thin and isn’t getting nutrients. What is wrong? Plz help before we have to mercy-cull her. 😞

Describe, if you will, what sour crop treatment you've tried, how many times a day and for how long. How old is Dr Grant? With an authoritative moniker like that, she has to pull through.

When did this begin? Can you think of anything that may have triggered sour crop, such as being on an antibiotic?

There are several things we can try, but please answer my questions so we can have a baseline to start from.

Have you checked for a blockage? Maybe a grass ball?
It’s just liquid.

I gave her a mash, but limited her food and gave her plenty of water. I did it for about a week.
When did this begin?

No can’t think of anything.
@Blue Raptor I'm sorry to hear about your SS, I have only had 2 hens with crop issues and both times @TwoCrows Helped me by recommending Ducolax it's here in her article.

Other than this I will have to leave any other advice to the experts like @azygous
Sure hope she pulls through.
Neither of mine had sour crop there was no smell just wasn't able to empty.
Okay, thank you.

Update as of today: yesterday I put her in a cage inside to relieve her of the heat, which she seemed to like. Then I gave her a little bit of keifer yogurt and water. Today my mom gave her some blackberries and water. Now she is shivering and pulling her crop up like when they are swallowing something down their throats.

So, if I understand correctly, you haven't treated her sour crop at all. She will eventually starve due to her crop not permitting food to be received and processed, so you need to ask your mom if you can go buy some women's vaginal yeast cream at the store. Ask for miconazole cream in a tube like toothpaste. It's found where they shelve the pads and tampons.

You will give her one inch of cream right away and another dose at bedtime. Give her food as usual and plenty of water. Tomorrow, give her a dose in the morning, again in the middle of the day and another at bedtime. Do this for seven days. SEVEN, no less.

Like pellets, food as usual? We already have the cream so thank you for the instructions!
