HI ALL
My name is Sandy and my husband and i have just recently become parents to 6 of the red sexlinks for egg layers they are about 20 weeks old and they were all doing really well, we got home this evening from an appointment and the one chicken was laying in the back of the coop run in the sand
i crawled in and got her and was holding her and she was dripping fluid from her beak, she was also very docile .. and didn't struggle , then she all of a sudden threw her head back and made some strange noises an then her head came forward and all kinds of liquid come out of her mouth and what looked to be her eyes and she was gone. All the others girls seem fine I am just glad we were home for her I just don't understand what could have happened .would some one have an answer possibly for me , i am now worried about the other hens
thank you
sandy

I cant help except possibly choked on something.
Just wanted to say how very sorry I am.
Others will be able to give you ideas of possibke causes.

I agree with the choking possibility, I had a duck that died in my arms as well. Although I do not remember fluid coming out the nose or mouth, your situation sounds similar.

Hi welcome to BYC! :frow

Sorry for your loss. :hugs

That would likely have been blocked, impacted, or sour crop...

Assuming the issue is not caused by something being fed or possibly Marek's... I don't consider crop issues as contagious.

If you want the best answer possible... getting a necropsy is recommended...

Sorry for your loss.
Is it hot where you are?
She could have gorged on water, overfilling her crop, then aspirated some of it.
Thank you, we had a wonderful day here not to hot only 70 deg F ,We live in Ontario Canada
