Mycoplasma Gallisepticum Positive test

Hi,

My chickens were displaying all the symptoms I had looked up online for mycoplasma, so I had a vet come out and swab them. They are positive. There are 8 chickens in total. My sister lives on the the property and cares for them.

I now live next door and I had started a small flock over here before we knew. I am curious if I should be worrying about it being transmitted here from feathers etc? I don’t go into that area and care for them since she does but I’m more concerned about things blowing over here. Has anyone had experience with something like this?

Sorry about the diagnosis of your sister’s hens. Keep yours as far away as possible. MG is spread through the respiratory tract and through the eyes. It can be passed through hatching eggs as well. There is a vaccine available to use on your chickens to protect them. Here is some reading about MG:

MG (and other respiratory diseases) can also be transmitted via your person ie; hands, clothing, shoes, tires on vehicles etc...
Maintain strict biosecurity and everything will be fine.
