We had two turkey eggs in a nest box to encourage one of our hens to sit and when I went out to feed them this morning one was missing. I searched the box, the litter inside the box, and the entire house and run. Nothing. No egg or even evidence of an egg being eaten. We live in Congo so it is a tropical area/place. My first thought was a snake but we have never had one bigger than a pencil in our yard before and the ones we have had wouldn't be big enough to swallow a turkey egg. Any other ideas? There is no evidence of egg eating so whatever took it dashed before dining on it.

Snake would be my first thought. Just because you haven't seen big ones doesn't mean anything.
Other possibilities are human or civet. Anything else would have broken and eaten both.

Would a civet return? We tried putting some chicken eggs in the box last night but they were left untouched.

Anything that knows where to find food will eventually return. Not all animals have a small range and sometimes it takes them a while to get back around to you.
