Mysterious, painful leg

I agree that the Amoxicillin would have been the best. I think that I would go with the Oxytetracycline. Try it and still try and get to a vet for better meds.

Dang it, I really wish I had some that wasnt expired.

How much should I give her? I need like a teaspoon recommendaton because I dont have anything to measure out oz and what not

Its Pennox 343 Oxytetracline HCI

It also says to only use in water, is it still ok to add to water? I feel like it would be much easier to get it in her that way

Hoping to hear from someone soon! Going to bed in a bit and have to work all day tomorrow.

Dont mean to pester, just want to get this stuff in her asap but not sure how much to give.

There are no directions on the bottle at all? I'm sorry, I've never used that med and don't know what the dosage is.

Anywhere between 200-800mg/gallon
"Add the following amount to ten gallons of stock solution when proportioner is set to meter at the rate of one ounce per gallon"
"1/2-2 packs per 10 gallons of water" if that helps for dosage- 23.9 oz in pack

I apologize, I dont understand this stuff very much. I guess what I need to know is how much to give her tonight. She doesnt drink water fast enough before she spills it in her cage so I would like to add it to some food. Would it be ok if I added some to some egg yolk? I gave her that when it was suggested awhile back and she loved it so I know I can get it in her right away and it would be easy to mix in!

But how much? (teaspoons amounts would be easiest for me to understand)
THANKS!!!

Well I just went ahead and did a 1/4 teas with egg yolk. Ate maybe half of it.

Added another 1/4 teas to some water but doubt she will drink much over night

I have an appt with a vet today this afternoon! So happy they will see her though it still is a 2 hour drive. Should be an interesting drive....

I am so sorry that I didn't respond last night. I am tending to some sick chickens myself and then, exhausted, I crawled into bed. I didn't see your last post, sorry.

I am so happy that you are getting to see a vet!!! Please post and let us know what he has to say!!

Oh no, dont worry! I knew I was taking a chance with it being late and I think it's tough to OD on antibiotics. She seems weird today, kind of out of it but it is still early and kind of dark inside so hopefully still in the zone from sleeping.

Hope your chickens are feeling better!

I didn't have much experience with that medication so I didn't post...and I hit the hay early too. Glad you found someone to see her...you'd think.chickens were aliens or something with some vets....geesh. let us know what you find out.....hope they can get her on the mend quickly. Remember to make them explain their diagnoses and why they think it is..and what gives th that impression etc and how many they have seen before. With chickens.some vets just fit symptoms all into one.category..... But hopefully you'll be in good hands.
