Naked Neck/Turken Thread

Nope, all he told me was that selecting for white is what I'm supposed to do. Not sure if it makes any difference, but none of their feathers come in black and are tipped with white, or vice versa. They all come in solid color.

Isn't that paint rather then mottled????? Just something floating around in the back of my head.

I'm not sure. From what I've seen of paint it's dominant white with just a little black showing through. With my birds, the original parents were almost completely black with just a little white, which is the opposite. Honestly I'm not sure exactly what it is, but it seems that there is an argument that exchequer shows up this way, so maybe it's exchequer? I don't think it's really mottled either because the feathers aren't tipped with white, they are all white.

I ought to brush up again, think paint is due to a different gene- possibly dominant white? If that's the case, then Pyxis' birds definitely are not paint as the parents for certainly do not have dominant white.

Also not sure, think Paint is ideally mostly white with large or at least well defined colored patches?

Exchequer pattern is totally random, ideally with more white than black and is definitely recessive.

My apologies- Pyxis just answered your Q.. never mind mine. :)

By the way Pyxis- a friend crossed exchequer leghorn with a black silkie, chicks turned out all solid black. proving beyond any doubt dominant white is not involved..

Thanks for the info! Perhaps I'll cross one of the non NN chicks out to a black OEG bantam and see what happens. Then I'd have a much better idea of what I'm dealing with here.

I'm cross posting in here because I'm cross breeding my Alohas with Naked Necks!!!

Please check out the "Aloha Project" thread if you'd like to see how these develop. Mille Naked Necks, anyone? LOL!!!

Just hatched a bunch of new peeps (11 Aloha x Naked Necks so far) and if any of them end up spotted will be sharing on the Aloha thread:

Here are the "regular" Alohas so if they color up, picture this with a NN:

Very beautiful, love this rooster! Really liking the color combinations of tan, black, white, darker shades of buff, red with the NN adding different area of color. If I saw this roo for sale locally, most likely would have grabbed it despite not needing more chickens lol....

Did you see the recent messages about Pyxis' mottled chick and exchequer?

Curious- do you get birds approaching exchequer? Just wondering if there's any meat behind the idea of breeding more white to achieve the exchequer pattern.
